I guess that is why JJ always go for shiny toys and big name FA.
For example? I seriously can't think of one. Maybe a long time ago but not the last few years.

I've always wondered if the Cowboys lack of success has attributed to Jerrys deals?
The way I understand it is that the NFL splits up to 80% Of its profits on tv deals, merchandise profit, and ticket sales evenly for all 32 teams.
So less popular teams still benefit from the success of more popular teams. For example last years super bowl....
The Patriots and Seahawks had some of the top selling jerseys according to nfl shop in Brady and Wilson. So regardless of who won. Those jerseys would increase in sales and therefore more money in the hands of team owners.
But (correct me if I'm wrong) Jerry Jones is the only owner that owns the rights to the Cowboys Brand so he keeps the profits on merchandise But does not receive profit from other teams sales. For the example mentioned above Dez Bryant and Tony Romo were also among the top selling jerseys; however, what do other team owners benefit from having Cowboys in a Super Bowl or even far in the playoffs since they won't see any of that merchandise profit?
I think the Cowboys are just used bye the NFL for their tv ratings. They're mostly on prime time in close games and then get disposed off around playoff time.
I've always wondered if this had anything to do with the lack of success or if they're just truely not good?
Hate to break the news to you bro, but this team is just not that good.
The entire problem is that we have very good starters, especially on offense. However, we have very little to no depth at all and that is strictly due to poor drafting. Yea, we have hit on our first round offensive lineman, but if you look at how many players we have contributing that were drafted outside the first round...........the list is small, very small.
That is why the team cannot absorb injuries like other teams do...........it is really not complicated guys, it really is not.
The reason we have only two playoff victories over the last 20 seasons is primarily due to poor drafting year in and year out. See, if you want to win a SB, you have to be a playoff caliber team year in and year out. Eventually your team will get hot and you will win a SB, because the odds of winning the SB in any one particular year is very low.
So if you go to the playoffs just 1 time in 5 years, you are never going to be in position to win the SB. You have to be a playoff caliber team year in and year out and hope that one year you get lucky. The way we are doing it right now is going to accomplish nothing. So long story short, if you want to be in a position to win the SB, then you need to be competitive year in and year out for the playoffs and the best way to do that is to draft well. Now to draft well, you have to have good scouts, good coaches, and good management that knows what the hell they are doing.
Not sure we have that last part.
I think you're right all this plays a part in the success of a team; however, put yourself in the shoes of an NFL owner... how do you benefit by having the Cowboys in a Super Bowl. As an owner you will not benefit from Cowboys merch sales. Maybe ratings but the big game sales it self.
Also the argument could have been made for Romo MVP the year before but it went to Rodgers because of the same argument. NFL owners will not benefit from the extra jersey sales had romo
Won.
That's why I don't think Cowboys get the benefit of the doubt on key plays that end up costing games aside from the arguments you stated.
In terms of the problems facing the SS Cowboys, Jerry is like the whale and ref bias is like the minnow on its back
Which one do you think will sink the ship?
Jerruh = Mocah Dick
I think you meant "mega" but wrote "Mocah"
If you look at the two times we had great seasons 12-4 13-3 there were specific things that attributed to that. The biggest difference is that we had great run games to team with Romo. And that in turn allowed the defense to be average to above average. The 13-3 season it was wades first season and we were top 3 in sacks that year. In 2014 we were #2 in turnovers with the defense. So it is:
-Health of Romo
-Strong Run game
-Defense plays great in one particular capacity.
Its just too many things to go right for any kind of consistency. If we can just get a great back, the run game should be consistently great for years to come. Then you have the Romo issue and the defense issue.
