Disagree. I think it was an option route.

Also, I'd like to think that even if it was just a slant route, Romo and Dez have the proper chemistry to improvise.

I don't think he was wrong at all (if that's the case). Dez is a beast and helps make up for mistakes but sometimes they don't work out that well and it can go the other way. It went well though so this may be over analyzing it.

And that's the bottom line. Whatever happened, they obviously have the chemistry to adjust.

I have not clue about what the play was designed to do, but I'll tell you what, that play should be implemented into the offense! :D:eek:

I think one thing we do see is that Dez is watching Romo and Romo is watching Dez. If Dez messed up and let the defender in front of him, the hesitation looks like its him thinking/saying "Don't stop, keep running the route" Romo definitely recognized that the defender was in front. I think the "pump fake" wasn't as intentional as much as it was him readjusting and once he did see Dez open, firing a tight, fast pass to him in a good position to let Dez snag the pass.

I'm HOPING it's one of those little oops-adjustment type of plays that a QB & WR can pull off when they're playing on a whole new level together, when they understand each other and are in sync.

FWIW I think Michael Irvin at the NFL channel desk was saying the same thing, that Dez screwed up by going behind the CB, too.

Not a good thing to hear then. Just because it was successful doesn't mean it'll be successful the next time. Next time, Romo might release and then the ball is going the other way.

Sure looks like a busted play. It looks like Dez didn't do what he was supposed to do and cut across the CBs' face. Romo at the last minute pulled back and reloaded. Got lucky.

Had this been the real play all along, do you think they would have unveiled something like this in the preseason? Every other play so far in the preseason has been nothing but plain, old vanilla.

Having said that, if this play isn't in their arsenal, they should add it. Two step slow slant and then short seam go.

Irvin did say that, and it was a smart move by Romo to not recognize that instead of just throwing the timing route otherwise...Romo throws a pick.

Check the DMN Cowboys blog, Bales breaksdown exactly what happened. It was acutally a called running play, but Dez and Romo had a sight adjustment. Pretty interesting explanation.

Anyone else notice someone bumped into Romo's throwing arm right before he threw it? There were a lot of things that could have gone wrong with that play. haha

Laughenberg said the corner was on a blitz and recognized the slant and stayed home to break that up. The replay during the game showed he started toward the line of scrimmage and then froze.

I'd chalk it up to a lucky play.

this article went over the same play and praised romo and dez for improvising on what was initially a draw play. (I'm not buying it though)

It looked like tracy porter was coming off a corner blitz anyways and dez ran to the soft zone in the coverage.

It was a lucky play, and a damn good one at that. Maybe Romo and Dez drew it up in the sand?

31 guess and jumped the route, and looks like it surprised Dez, Tony pulled it and Dez kept going, which resulted in the play.

I actually think it was a corner blitz. Or an attempted one. I don't think he guessed the route. Watch what Jenkins does immediately at the snap. He's not even looking at Dez. He just runs straight toward the QB. There's no way Dez could have crossed in front of him. Also, check out the corner on the other side of the field. He's running full speed backwards to help cover deep in case the blitz doesn't get there.

The only wrong analysis here is that Dez somehow made a mistake.

Chemistry...they were both on the same page. That play would have won the Washington game!
