Weeden is a turnover machine. That's his problem.

He has incredible velocity on his passes and arm strength is good. I would even say accuracy is not a problem.

We need to give him checkdowns on every play. He needs a safe out at all times.

I expect a lot of Dunbar, Beasley, Witten, with Street/Butler running down the sideline so if all else fails Weeden can throw it out of bounds.

If Weedons strength is the deep ball then he will really miss Dez.

Guys, I honestly think we need to get our OL right. In the second half, they actually got some focus and started dominating the Eagles DL. The problem, all game, was really the focus on the small stuff. Just too many stupid penalties. You can't start every drive 1st and 15. Get that figured out and start giving yourself 10 yards to make instead of 15 or 20 and Weedon is going to look fine. The strength of this team is the OL run game blocking. It will make our passing game look better and it will make our Defense look incredible. That's what we need to get fixed.

Jesse Holley is the only thing I have against Michael Irvin. Why anyone listens to him, particularly since he NEVER played with Weeden, is a mystery.

Talk about your 15 minutes...

ESPN tweeted a stat as Weeden went into yesterday's game that he is something like 22 of 29 when not throwing to Dez, and 2 of 12 when throwing to Dez.

Weeden has one of the strongest arms in the league.
If Dallas will run it and then rely on play action he will be fine.

Weeden likes dump offs and check downs when his first option isn't there so we won't see extended plays and Romo magic but we are built to win with this Weeden-style QB play. Checking down to Dunbar, Randle and DMC has proven valuable thus far this year and we want to be run first to a fault.

TWill is not consistent like Dez but he is a real threat.

That's probably misleading simply because it is a small sample and we played a tremendous defense in Arizona. Peterson has his issues at times but he is a near mirror match up with Dez athletically.

Holly is an expert on??.............oh yeah...absolutely notta...since when does any QB in the NFL not want their number 1 option out there....

Well, Holley has one thing many of us don't have and that's experience in the NFL and playing with the Dallas Cowboys. He has also played with Romo. And yet ... many of us on this forum you would think we were all-Pros playing for the Cowboys the way we're so dogmatic in our approach to knowing what the Cowboys should or shouldn't do.

I would tend to listen to Holley and consider him more "expert" then most, if not all, the posters on this board.

It's not an interesting take at all, it's basically what Weeden did last time around. He locked on dez like he didn't have any other options.

Weeden's first game is going to be interesting. Atlanta doesn't have a ton of defensive talent but Quinn is a good defensive coach. Will be interesting to see what he tries.

Isn't this the same criticism leveled against TO? I don't think it's necessarily a negative. It just depends on the quarterback. I don't doubt Dez is always begging for the ball. But a veteran like Romo can tell him to - in so many words - "shut up." Whereas a backup like Weeden may be more influenced by a Dez because he (Weeden) doesn't have equal status as Dez.
Whereas an Aaron Rodgers or a Tom Brady have the gravitas to put receivers in their place if they get too boisterous.
I want my receivers to be confident enough to want the ball. But I want my quarterbacks to make the right decisions and not force the ball.

Exactly right.

The offense as it is right now is well suited to Weeden's talents.

I don't know if that was meant so much as a Dez would be a me me guy or more so that Holly is stating that without Dez that Weeden won't feel like he has to go to Dez. Cause Dez is his star player.

I think I see where Holly is coming from he just maybe didn't explain himself as clearly as he should have.
