Jets DE John Abraham A Cowboy Next Year?

Good information. Now do you think he can play the strong side? He seems more suited for Ware's position.

Nope, I think Ware would play strong side in that situation. While he seems to have disappointed some with his pass rushing lately, he's improved leaps and bounds in his run defense as the season has gone along.

As much as I love the youth movement we have on our defense and the potential in the future, I'm still seeing QB's have a ton of time to find open receivers. I'm all for getting a guy with a proven history for being able to get to the QB.

Too many other pressing needs in my opinion. They need to upgrade at LB, Oline and find a young playmaker at WR. The Dline should be solid with Ellis, Spears and Canty.

I didn't see yesterday's game but it sounded like Burnett is getting more active and producing. Yes? No? (I hate not seeing the game.) Anyway, one of the things I always liked about the 3-4 was LBers can be picked up in the middle rounds because most teams were looking for 4-3 LBers.

I have to say pass on Abraham. I would much rather see that money go to getting some good FA OL. Abraham would be nice but I would rather use that money for Center LeCharles Bently. Center could be the weakest spot on this team and needs serious fixin.

Besides....if the rumors about the Rams being interested in Zimmer are HOPEFULLY TRUE!!!!!!!!!!....then when we get a real DC in here you will see Ware and our othe DL suddenly become beasts and us have a mad violent pass rush. Losing Mike Zimmer would help our DL much more then adding Abraham would help.

I think Burnett will end up moving inside and taking Dat's place. Its really not a huge move. Its literally just 2 steps over for a 4-3 OLB, just like Bradie James played weakside OLB in the 4-3. Burnett is more of a chase and persue LB than an outside pass rusher charging in from the edge.

If they could sign Abraham,it would really give the Boys
that qb pressure they seem to lack.He would also mentor
these young kids and then this team could really become
a hell of a force.Burnett,Canty,Spears,Deware,and John
Abraham, wow what a defense this could become.

In '00 when the Jets had 4 #1's, Parcells was the GM at the time, and John Abraham was one of those(Pennington, Shaun Ellis, and Andy Becht were the others)-FWIW.

I can easily see JA as a Cowboy next year.

I personally think LOLB is probably the 2nd biggest need on the team beside left tackle. I would take Abraham in a second. One of the benefits of having all young players and low round draft picks on the defensive front 7 is that the Cowboys should have some money to a key free agent. Ellis' contract is moderate. The only high dollar player on the roster at the moment is Glover, and he's on his way out. Ware and Spears are locked up for at least 4 more years. Canty for 3.

Abraham has and can play in the 3-4. He's roughly the same size as Ware. Parcells drafted him, and he played his rookie year with the Jets in Al Groh's 3-4.
:hammer: What he said!

If Washington signs him, I will slit my wrists. Those clowns will have an instant pass rush.

I think Jon wants to play for Bill...when he changed his number from 94 to 56 this year, he never gave a convincing reason.

But my totally off the wall specualtion is it was a message to Tuna.

Let ME be your LT.

yeah, I know....lol

I do agree we need another pass rusher from the OLB position. Basically, we need a Rosie Colvin/Vrabel to pair with our McGinnest (Ware)

I disagree about Abraham being at his best in a 4-3. He's a natural 6'4" 250-255 lbs. guy with the Lawrence Taylor/Derrick Thomas body frame. He ran a 4.41-4.45 coming out of the draft. He played outside linebacker in a 4-3 in college at South Carolina his senior year who would rush the passer in nickel formations. He's still in his prime at 27 years old (I would hope Ware isn't too washed up to play the position three years from now)

His injury problems always come up at the end of the season, which I think are caused by the grind of taking on 330 lbs. left tackles with his hand down every snap. That's not what the Parcells and the Jets drafted him to be. That's what Herm Edwards has forced him to be when he came in and implemented his 4-3 system.

My arguments about Abraham not being a OLB are not in relation to his physical attributes because he clearly has the size and athletic ability for the scheme. I just seem to recall there were issues about him not wanting to play OLB - wanted to rush the passer as a DE every play.

One of my other concerns is attitude. I think he has always been known as tempermental. Then there was the whole issue of heart last year when it sounded like he would have played in the playoffs last year if he had been signed to a long-term deal because he didn't want to risk injury. I can understand his point to a certain degree here but if you can play and it is the playoffs, you need to be in the game.

In terms of injury, hasn't he had recurrent back strains? Always makes me nervous investing that kind of money in guys with bad backs.

The last issue is productivity - only two double-digit sack years in his career. Now I know when I watch him he is a terror out there but you have to wonder why he doesn't get more. He played on quality DL with guys like Thomas, Fergy and Shaun Ellis yet he doesn't put up the numbers a guy like Simeon Rice does - just causes you to pause some.

Not needed or warranted, I'll pass. So will Parcells too, I believe. We have bigger fish to fry, like repeating what we did last offseason on defense, on offense.

Kicker
Playmaker WR
OL

Wouldn't even be against pulling S. Alexander in for a look at RB if the 'Hawks do a dumb move and give him a chance to look around.

Defense though, I'd just as soon give what we did last year a few more years before making any decisions on where our new younger guys are. Now it's just time for that "youthful nucleous" to be injected into the offensive side of things.

Guys Inman is dead on with his analysis!! We will have the same amount of cap space as we had last year we have quite a bit of dead money dropping from the payroll. Abraham comes to Dallas I feel pretty confident about it to be honest.

why would we want him? he plays the same side as ware, can't cover, cost alot.if you want a lb, get a lb.he is a de and not much need on this team for another de.

I definitely disgree that LOLB is not a need. According to Parcells, this team doesn't have the pass rush to be considered a dominating defense, and he's listed OLB as one of his areas of concern on this team since training camp ... much, much, much more often than he's listed WR.

Its nice when you enter the hypothetical "OL, OL, OL, Playmaking WR" ... but as Parcells says often, this isn't Texaco. You have to take what's available on the market. Please name me 3 starting caliber OL who will be availabe. And then list for me your playmaking WR that will be available.
