By whom? The usual click bait haters?

Ahhh I see what kind of conversation this is going to be. If they do not kiss the ring of JJ and admit the failings of the past quarter century then we label them a hater.

Lets play a game though to make this easy. Pick a single national publication (after all there are no shortage of them) that gave the Cowboys high marks for free agency. A single one (as a spoiler you will not find one). So at this point you are left arguing that either CBS Sports, NFL writers, ESPN, Fox Sports, PFF, etc., etc., etc., are all somehow biased against the Cowboys and somehow refuse to admit that free agency went well (despite the evidence of your eyes and ears) or maybe everyone is right.

Anyone think Pineiro is worth picking up. He was 8-for-8 last year and 9-of-10 on extra points. In the preseason, he was 1-for-1 and 2-for-2.
yes saw this as well and was hoping maher would get some real competition

Perfection as a kicker is not reality, give me a kicker who will hit over 85% of his kicks and I will ride with him.
right then we hes gets in a slump, cut him, its the one positions you just go get the next guy because unless you have the top 3 Kicker, there's not a lot of separations between them all.

From what I've read, Zuerlein has kicked extremely well in Jets camp, and Pineiro hasn't been bad, either. It looks like Greg the Leg may have regained it a year removed from his second back surgery. It's kind of like Dan Bailey bouncing back to have a good season a year after we cut him. Both players got healthy. Now, I don't expect Zuerlein to ever be the player he was in his prime, but he's still a good kicker when healthy without as much range as he once had.

I don't know much about Pineiro other than he didn't miss last year in a limited number of attempts (which is also what Maher had). Maher kicked better than he did for us, but there's still room for improvement. I'm for trying to find the best kicker that we can. Pineiro is relatively young comparatively, so he might solve the problem for years to come. I can't say I trust Maher, either, until he proves trustworthy. He wasn't with us the last time around, but he has said he worked on his focus, which led to his better performance after leaving us.

so we got rid of Zeurline because he was not good. he went to jets. now jets cut Pineiro, and keep the guy we didn't want because he sucked....I don't get the logic.

It appears Zuerlein regained his mojo. It's not like the other kicker was bad for the Jets. He was perfect last year in limited attempts.

He had issues with the Cowboys but last year he was 8/9 30-39 and 4/4 40-49

Also missed his only attempt from 50-plus (which isn't a big deal) and missed two of 12 PATS (which is a bit more concerning).

Oh, you know me so well. You're a friggin' genius!...No, I'm asking if you're talking about people like SAS, who make a living talking crap about the Cowboys.

We weren't talking about analysts giving low grades, or saying the Cowboys should take better advantage of free agency. You said "mocking" the Cowboys. Show me a legitimate analyst who mocked them.

Maher has only missed 3 XP in 81 attempts. And can kick long ones. That’s the direction. Stay away from 35 - 47 yarders. Lol.

He missed two extra points in 12 attempts last year. That's not good.

that why i said no need to cut GZ but fans wanted him gone.it was more salary than his talent..they saved money with his release.

Very few kickers stay with the team they started with.

Hell Dan Bailey was a prime example of how you can go from the best overall accuracy to can't hit a FG to save your life. Hate to say it but it is the nature of the position.

I just wanted real competition for Zuerlein, unlike last year when we handed him the job coming off back surgery. I feel the same way about Maher. We cut Hallelujah because he wasn't that great in practice. Maher's kicking last year was an outlier to his career. It's hard to know if it was an anomaly or we can actually expect him to be close to 90 percent. The two misses on 12 PATs are more like his career numbers on FGs, so they make me wonder if he can maintain the FG success. I'd rather at least have options and would lean toward going another direction if one presents itself. Pineiro was an extremely good college kicker who seemed to find himself, but also has been set back by injuries. I'd certainly take a look rather than just hope that Maher has fixed his shorter-range issues.

Then why did they cut him in 2013 & 2019?!

maybe he's gotten better, he was pretty good for the Saints last season.
Kickers are funny, they can be bad one place get cut, show up in another place and be good, Maybe Maher has work out some issues.
