He supposedly wants 4-5 mils a yr...for a guy who doesnt make many plays he isnt worth anywhere near that. He is not a ball hawk and never will be.
IF he wants that much then NO, no way we should go after him. But IF he came reasonable....YUP! Then you go after him and never look back.

When I started this thread, I didnt realize he would be asking for that price, bad assumption on my part.
Not for that price, but price tags start to slip a bit as agents start getting restless when their prospects are sitting on the shelf and the money starts drying up.
If his price come down to half price, than its time to start bargain shopping again.

I'd rather go with James Butler on a 2 year contract for about $1.5mm per year.

If Leonhard wants $4-$5 mill per year I'd give him it. He's a hell of a lot better than Hamlin at either safety spot.

He left New York without a contract.

• Ravens free-agent S Jim Leonhard did, in fact, leave the Jets' building yesterday without a contract. The Jets, trying to capitalize on his close relationship with Ryan, probably low-balled him. My gut tells me he'll end up signing with the Jets after he sees what's out there.

There's alot of love for Leonhard in here! IMO he's JAG who was lucky enough to play on a stellar, star-laden defense. He's not a true SS and Hamlin's locked in at free, so we really have no place for him, especially if he's looking for Pro Bowler $$$!

I agree, Butler is a much better fit than the half yr wonder midgit from Baltimore

Because quite obviously some internet poster has just GOT TO BE a whole lot smarter then one of the NFL's top defensive minds Rex Ryan.

...............This is not true. And yes, he made quite a few plays, some very nice tackles, and a nice return or 2 in the kicking game.

He made 5 tackles, had no passes defensed, didnt factor in either turnover we had and had 3 punt returns for 40 yds...one of which was a 20-something yarder

He's Keith Davis that can also return punts, in other words, JAG

Every coach has guys they like because of effort or whatever...doesnt mean said guy fits every scheme or is more than JAG...just means they really like him

Personally I think if he ends up anywhere other than playing for Ryan, nobody will hear anything about him ever again. And that might happen even if he does end up with Ryan.

We need somebody with range and a penchent for making plays on the ball, he has niether.

He's signing with the Jets per PFT.

Not so fast.

BRONCOS JUMP INTO THE BIDDING FOR LEONHARD
Posted by Mike Florio on March 3, 2009, 12:43 p.m.
As we said earlier today, verbal agreements are roughly the same as no agreements at all.

The Jets are learning that, the hard way.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that the Broncos have made a late run at Ravens free-agent safety Jim Leonhard, who has an inherently unenforceable verbal deal to join the Jets.

And so now Leonhard is reconsidering — and might be reneging.
