Now here is the thing. Why are they going to open this can of worms? If they are going to get involved with the Geno incident shouldn't they investigate Imoan Claiborne for his punch? What is the difference? Because he didn't break his jaw? Same intent, different result.
The Rams players didn't injure anybody.

I do expect the NFL to start monitoring 2 team practices in the future and fining players as if it were a game. The teams have it all on film.

If you let players hit other players with their fist, and let it go, that is saying it is ok to hit other players.
It doesnt matter where they are, they will then think it is ok, many of these guys are not that bright, and many are prone to violence.
So sooner or later a player will hit another player thinking it is ok, and seriously hurt the other player.

That is what has happened in the geno incident, a player was just doing the manly thing which is ok and hitting another guy.
Only problem is these guys are big and strong, so a punch can do some damage.
To me it isnt that geno will miss games, it is he now has to deal with a broken jaw and that is for life, it may heal up ok, or it may never be the same.
So that is a serious deal, but coaches and owners are to blame for letting this go on for quite awhile.

I was watching some videos of the dallas rams fights, and IMO garrett and fisher wanted the fights to happen. They set it up so thier
might be fights and let it happen, then stopped it after they got the results they wanted.
I have read about fights on other teams in practices, so you could say this is condoned by coaches around the league.

It produces a violent mentality which could lead to incidents like the geno one or something even worse.

So they need to simple make rules that any punch by any player on another player anywhere, be it practice or elsewhere, or a game,
that player gets a stiff fine which can be very high depending on how bad it is , and that the coaches and owner are also fined heavily.,

If garrett and fisher was fined $500,000 for that practice fight, how likely is it that it would happen again??
If they are fined $5000, that is nothing and they would do it again whenever they want.
Same thing for players, have the minimum fine be $100,000 Then they will be more likely to not hit anyone.

To investigate one fight but not all is just ******** and wont correct the problem.

Maybe you could use examples from this century? Sorry, but how the league handled an incident in 1974 isn't all that relevant to the discussion. Even an incident from the mid 90's might as well have happened in ancient Greece with the way social media has altered the landscape for any public organization.

And there in lies the problem. The wonderful Social Media.

I think I saw a link posted here that Sean Payton warned his players that during the practices with the Cheatriots if anyone fights, they can pack their bags and go home.

I am sure they are just doing this so they can suspend Dez for his part in the fight with the Rams. Probably give him 10 games for hitting 45 with his face. Which could have caused serious damage to the players hand.

You understand that the players are essentially employees of the NFL, right? Incidents that happen within the NFL...is the NFL's business.

How is this complicated?

They are the commodity. Can't have them run amuck and ***** things up.

A man ended up with a broken jaw, the nfl needs to investigate for no other reason than if another incident happens down the road and someone else gets hurt this can't be thrown back in their face.

I don't see the big deal in the NFL reviewing the incident.

Seems like a smart move after a player got his jaw broken. However, it's not like much can be done. IK is a camp body and likely has no NFL future so any suspension from the NFL would be just about pointless

There is also a big difference in the geno incident. There are camp fights all the time but this was not a camp fight at all
This was not football related at all
And as you
Pointed out someone was seriously injured

The league feels they need to protect the shield and it's not surprising if they see the Jets punching incident as something that has a negative impact on the NFL Brand.....

Just like the embarrassment that was the Rams sucker punch and fight was something that has a negative impact on the NFL Brand. These joint practices are attended by many children and letting grown men fighting like street thugs and then having this fight broadcasted everywhere over and over is something the league has to be concerned about.
Remember this is a league that punishes a player taking a knee in prayer after a touchdown. If they see that as a negative then what's a street brawl look like.

This had nothing to do with football, this took place in the locker room where one player attacked other. Trying to compare it to on the field, pushing and shoving that takes place and what happened in this situation is totally different. It would be like saying a boxer punching an opponent outside the ring as compared to hitting him in the ring. One is just part of the business and the other is assault
