The New York Jets have traded defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson to the Denver Broncos for a conditional 2009 draft choice, coach Mike Shanahan announced Thursday. The move improves a great position of need for the Broncos.
The conditional draft pick will be a late-round selection, reports NFL Networks' Adam Schefter.
Robertson (6-foot-1, 310 pounds) is a sixth-year player who joins the Broncos after playing his first five professional seasons with the Jets. New York selected him with the fourth overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft from the University of Kentucky.
In 77 career regular-season games (75 starts), Robertson has totaled 319 tackles (188 solo), 14.5 sacks (106 yds.), four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups. He also has totaled 18 tackles (11 solo) in three career playoff games (3 starts).
Robertson has played every game in four of his five seasons and missed only three games for his career.
The Broncos also on Thursday waived center Norm Katnik.

remember when it was rumored that big bill was infatuated with robertson and wanted to take him instead of newman? wonder if this was one of the ten disagreements parcells and jones had, and if it was, how badly would that have reflected on parcells drafting...

skipping over witten,
'allegedly' wanting spears over ware,
'allegedly' wanting robertson over newman

these are three draft picks bill gets credit for and yet, he may not have wanted any of the three...amazing huh?

Spears was more highly ranked then Ware up to the combine. At the combine Ware just absolutely blew people away and he jumped up the draft. BP had pretty much decided on ware vs Merriman but thought that Spears would get picked first= which might very well have happened if not for the combine. By the day of the draft it was clear that Ware and Merriman would get picked closely together ahead of Spears. BP had no problem grabbing Ware first but was very worried someone else would pick SPears. Remember we needed 2 3-4 DEs and we had none. We lucked out in getting both Spears and Canty and Ware all in one draft.
