That must suck.

Yet another reason to love Arizona. The Cardinals will never get there.

Rivera would want to be our HC because we're the team with the best opportunity to come in and have instant success.

If he has that he wouldn't need to worry about Garrett. If he goes 12-4 the next 3 years and wins a Super Bowl his job is set in stone.

He's a football coach, not a jealous girlfriend.
Agreed. Any coach worth his mettle would ONLY worry about the job at hand and not who's waiting in the wings. Rivera seems to be that type of person and coach. I hope JJ at the very least interviews the man.....

I, too, think Rivera is being lined up for our HC vacancy. There are some people on this board who think it's nonsense, but if Wade or Norv were coming in, they would be hired already.

Like it or not, it's the scenario that makes most sense now, given the delay in filling the spot.

And who said JG would be a head coach in 2 or 3 years? Did JJ publicly state that JG would be promoted in that time frame? That's just pure speculation. Also realize that the average head coaching tenure these days isn't exactly 20 years or anything. So, it's entirely feasible that if we brought in Rivera and he didn't fare too well as HC, then he'd be gone after 3 years just in time for JG to step up, if that were the case.

I could get VERY excited about Ron Rivera. Especially if he hires Singletary as DC. Stay tuned.............

I dont think Rivera is going to be our HC.

Problem is why would Rivera want to be HC with Garrett waiting in the wings. The first time we hit a losing streak the fans will be screaming for Garrett.

Rivera knows that one and done in the playoffs means his job also. So why would Rivera come to a situation where he knows he has to make 2nd round of playoffs at a min to fend off the guy looking over his shoulder?

Dont get me wrong, I love the Garrett hire. He is going to be great working with Romo, I just dont see why Rivera would leave the Bears for a "must win" situation.

Am I wrong here guys???

I dunno competition seems to work with the players .If he is that lacking in his confidence of getting the job done why would you want him here?

Yea but do they read the thread before they ask a question?

Some of the questions asked makes you wonder if they have the intelligence to read.

Isn't Jerry required by NFL rules to interview a minority coach before he hires anybody? Ok so who has he interviewed yet that is a minority? I am assuming they would include Latinos in that category and not just African Americans.

He has. Todd Bowles has been interviewed

I make one mistake and get hammered for it. Come on give me a break.

Other than the the usual media speculation, are there any direct quotes by JJ or from the Cowboy organization saying that JG WILL DEFINITELY be the HC in several years?

I thought from the start that JJ may have already had his Plan A choice...Rivera...but has to wait out the SB before he can officially talk to him.

In the meantime he is covering all bases by interviewing other candidates.

Rivera as HC with JG as OC sounds like a very plausable plan to me.

Well, Jerry in his official statement did say this..."Jason will now proceed further in our head coaching search as an in-house candidate."

You have to admit that is an odd way to hire someone, even by Jerry's standards. :)

I guess it's all speculation at this point...I would have to think that JJ's words were carefully chosen...

If he does really have Rivera in mind though, going through the motions and interviewing other candidates sure keep JJ in the spotlight!
