Jim Mora basically fired himself. He told his Dad to say Vick was a Coach killer, then he didn't think twice about hinting around that he would like to go elsewhere while on his friends radio show.

The reason, I believe, he was not happy in Atlanta was that he was handcuffed with Michael Vick. Vick will never be anything more than an average QB. Unless he is on a team with a extraordinary defense like he was in 2002, his team will be lucky to finish 8-8 or 9-7 at best. I believe Mora was interested in making a move to Shaub to create some offensive stability. I believe he was told by the owner not to make that move for one reason and one reason only. Money. Vick is Aurthur Blanks money maker. He makes more money off of Michael Vick than he would ever make off of a SuperBowl title without Vick. Blank realizes that, and will sacraffice a SuperBowl level team to continue making money off of Vick, even if it means an average result. Vick is bigger than the team itself.

Mora realized this, and with the help of his Dad's mouth, and his friends radio show, got himself out of Atlanta. Jimmy Johnson had a similar situation with a well past his prime Dan Marino in Miami. Johnson wanted to pull a Hershel Walker trade with Marino, but soon learned that Marino was bigger than he was. He was handcuffed with Marino.

All this being said, I don't think any less of Mora. I think he would be a great Head Coach if given the right opportunity, and truly expect him to be very successful in his next stint.

Conspiracy theories, much?

Mora got canned because he wasn't very good. I live in atlanta and pretty much the entire town hates the guy.

I agree, but I guess a part of my point was why would Shell want to come back. He's no spring chicken and it'll take years to right that ship. If they were a year or two away from making the playoffs, I can see the point.

If he wants to a head coach, he had better stay there as long as he can. That's the last head job, he will ever have.

I don't know if he is a bad coach or not, but he couldn't pay anyone else to hire him all these years.

I disagree Wrangler. It was Mora who had the bright idea to put Vick in an offense that requires the qb to make quick decisions and lots of short accurate throws.

The west coast offense does not fit Vicks skills and most people realized that as soon as Mora said that was the offense that he was going to use.

I'm not saying that I want Vick qbing my team, but if you inherit him, you should at least play to his strengths and not his weakness.

Mora will be scooped up as a coordinator pronto, look for him to go to Arizona.

Martz and Mora in the desert would capitalize on that roster.

If Bill is gonna hang it up, he better do it soon 'cause there's gonna be a lot of competition for coaching talent this off-season.

I think that Les Miles has his eye on the Dallas job because of the connections.

If you were a first time head coach would you want to go to the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons or Dallas Cowboys?

Who is the lesser reclamation project with the youthful roster?
Arizona and Dallas fill that bill now which one is more prestige?

There are some soft power intangibles to wield in the coaching market.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Why would we want Les Miles other than the familiarity factor?

Whoever it is, they can't be told to accept the 3-4 as part of the job. If it was built overnight, it can be torn down overnight.

Comfort level and a hot college coach who has produced bowl teams in his last 5 seasons as coach of two different 1A porgrams. One in the Big 12 South and the other in the SEC. He knows his stuff.

Parcells and Coughlin will escape black Monday because of the playoffs.

Cowher may step down. Crennel is a possibility.

I think Coughlin is done. It's a morale issue. The players just don't like him. You can't win when your chemistry is that bad. It may not be Coughlin's fault but it doesn't matter. Their lockerroom is a mess

In regards to Parcells, I think if we are competitive in that game, he will be back. If we get killed or committ many turnovers, Parcells will resign before Jerry can fire him

I live here too

there's alot to that "coach killer" talk...alot of its true...Vick is a coach killer...the next HC will be fired in 2-3 years too because nobody will be able to coach Vick into a quality NFL QB and win with him...and since Blank gave Vick the most ridiculous contract in league history, they are tatooed to him

Wow where's the Fire Parcells thread, I'm shocked it hasn't surfaced yet. I guess after the eventual lose to Seattle it will come!

If that happens, Parcells will usher him in. I have this feeling that Parcells is just waiting to gather up his buddies. He could be holding out for Crennel or Groh or even Henning  .

I don't think I can see Coughlin at Zona, the ATL, or Cleveland (if it opens up). Right now, I only think his act would work in the college ranks (is the BC coach on an interim basis?).
