There is no protection for “free speech” or the 1st amendment if representing the business or in this case the Cowboys. Teams can absolutely control the messaging on social media if they chose to.
But I do agree that teams are allowing this so it would be hard to put the genie back in the bottle.
Yep, your employer does not have to recognize your right to free speech any more than you or I do. And what could teams possibly do anyway? I'm sure if you're a fringe player not making much, and you say something outrageous, you'll be cut.
