Well jerry did have a part in jimmy leaving when he did. Jimmy was burned out , but might have stayed another year or 2 if jerry didnt irritate him so much
and make him mad frequently.
Jimmy liked time with the team after a game, and jerry wanted to barge in with celebrities before jimmy was done.
Jerry started taking credit in media for trades jimmy made.
Jerry did not want to pay emmitt
And on night jimmy left, jerry was drunk, got mad at jimmy after a snub ,and was saying in public that any one of 500 coaches could take this team to a SB
so he didnt need jimmy.

Jerry did apologize next day, but jimmy Had already left and refused to come back.

So it wasnt like he fired jimmy, he just meddled so much it got on jimmys nerves, with on top of the long hours led to what happened.
I hear you, but Jimmy was out the door no matter what.
5 years and burned out beyond belief. He was gone

There was a Dallas beat writer(Tim Cowlishaw maybe?) on The Ticket a couple of months ago claiming the long hours stuff is overblown. Specifically mentioned seeing Jimmy at social functions at like 4pm on work days routinely. I dont know who is telling the truth...but this guy was saying the tales of coaches sleeping in their offices from working so much is false...at least with Jimmy.

I heard a lot about it on the Ticket this morning.

Confirms what I've said all along, that Jerry was TOTALLY burned out as the Cowboys coach and was leaving no matter what.
So sick of people saying Jerry somehow ran him off. Jimmy never stayed anywhere more than 5 years and especially the Dallas.

Plenty to blame ol Jerrah for but running off jimmy is not one of them.

Also, Jimmy talked about how silly he was to be overly obsessed to the point where he was the all-time worst father to his kids because football came first--when it didnt have to be that way.
He never even went to any of his kids games their whole careers. One son got something like 25 D-1 offers, and he never saw a game.
Said he later apologized to Barry Switzer for haggling him over missing a meeting so he could see his grandkid play. Said looking back he was an idiot to say that.
Gotta respect him for owning that
I mean Jimmy, not Jerry

Cowlishaw was a massive drunk back then and has no clue.
Almost drank himself to death in the 90s.
Jimmy was a major workaholic by all accounts (and it paid off for Dallas) except Cowlishaw's
Sure he got out too, but that he burned himself out to a crisp, as he always did

Jerry probably could have headed this book off if he had simply followed through on his ROH promise.

Maybe a big part of that burnout was dealing with Jerry Jones?

How big was the check Jerry wrote to Jimmy to frame the tell all in a way Jerry is comfortable with?

Best book from a 3rd person view of Jimmy’s coaching style IMO is Emmitt’s autobiography. A lot of details on Jimmy’s uncanny predictions before games and what Jimmy would do on the plane after a loss and how much he hated it.
If I find it I'll post it. But I saw on YouTube an interview with Jimmy and Aikman. Aikman was talking about losing under Jimmy and how he didn't want to face Jimmy after a loss. He said Jimmy made it miserable after they lost to the point you didn't want to be around him. Everyone feared Jimmy if they lost. I believe Troy references the 92' loss at RFK to the (at the time) Commanders and Jimmy told the airplane staff not to feed them cuz they lost.

Jerry wanted to change Jimmy's contract. "Be part of the fun". This wan't burnout. The only thing burnt was the bridge.. and the horrendous GM job that followed.
