Jimmy Johnson

Ah yes, the quintessentail Jimmy Johnson thread. It must be Wednesday after a defeat.

Seems to be the pattern. I don't want to knock Jimmy I think he did a great job in Dallas. He was at the right place at the right time in Dallas. However things did not go very well in Miami and his drafting was not that great there either. Jimmy got what he wanted in Miami and that was being named HC/GM but the success did not happen.

Life was a lot harder with the salary cap and no Walker trade.

True, But Jimmy drafting got worse the futher removed he was from the college ranks. Miami drafted 4 or 5 RB in a 2 year span and still did not get a decent RB which lead Miami to make the trade for Ricky Williams.

And I'm sure the change to 7 rounds might have hurt also.

I just think people are looking at what happened when Jimmy was here and I'm not sure at all that he would be able to ever do that again. I think Dallas was the right team at the right time. Jimmy came here with no cap to contend with we were getting a lot of high draft picks and his knowledge of the kids in the college ranks was very good considering he recruited many of them some who went to Miami some who went else where but he still have a good insight on the player. I would also add if you look at Jimmy back ground you will see he has never coached any team more than 5 years and then he is gone.

Heh...I'll take five years of Jimmy, what the hell. I think he'd do better than a lot of you guys are predicting. What has Miami done with or without him? And he darn sure did get a few good players for them. Oh, and all of Parcells' tailbacks have been home runs...NOT. Don't lay that on Jimmy in Miami, either. While it is true that the way the NFL works now is substantially different in terms of salaries and intelligence than it was in 1990, a good coach is a good coach.

(But this will never happen.)

Jimmy is a good coach I don't think he will live up to the expectation of many who are hollering they want him back. Your right Parcells has missed on picks as well but the point is many act like Jimmy never missed on picks. I don't think Jimmy ever will return to Dallas or coaching if he did return I would have no problem with that but I think this notion that Jimmy would turn back the hands of time and it would be the 90's all over again no I don't think that would happen

I think most would love this, until he lost his first game, and then...go help him pack.

So true.

We'd be complaining the game has passed him by.

Jimmy Johnson must love these rumors.

JJ could never duplicate his success here, why ruin his legacy

Joe Gibbs "dead." Jimmy coming back. This has been an interesting 24 hours.

Yes he hit on some good defensive players. However he came to a Miami team who was making the playoffs and getting knocked out under Don Shula and he left Miami in about the same shape. No better no worse. As I said I have nothing aginst Jimmy but I don't think of him as some magic cure for the Cowboys. Parcells I looked at as a HC who has come in to right the ship and while we have not progressed as fast as I would like I do think progress is being made and I think when Bill does leave he will leave this team in better shape for the next guy who comes in.

have we progressed at all? It's year 4, and after what we saw Sunday night I'd say there's a good chance that 1) we may not make the playoffs for the 3rd straight yr 2) even if we do, it appears we have no hope of advancing much

Parcells won two super bowls with very good Giants teams, he has never won back to back championships or even coached teams to back to back conference championship games...he hasnt won a super bowl in 16 yrs either...

he was a good coach at one time, however he is a better personnel person than coach right now...our team is still not playing at the level it should be, especially defensively...and ultimately he is responsible

I'm not comparing Johnson and Parcells. I respect both men as HC but I think some are unrealistic when talking about Johnson returning to Dallas. As for this team yes I think we are on the right track and 1 poor game aginst the Saints is not changing my mind. As Woodson said they got their butts handed to them by a sorry Rams team and went on that year to win a SB. I don't know how far this team will advance this year but when I look around at the talent young and vets I think we have improved this club.

We are, as a team and organization, better off since Parcells was here. Perhaps that will be his legacy in Dallas.

Could be, hopefully he will accomplish more. Myself I have not given up on the ideal that Parcells can get this team back to the top. I don't think he forgot how to coach or lost his will to coach

We were a laughing stock of an organization before he got here. Every time this team hacks me off, I TRY to remember that.

we still are to some extent...we lost in horrible fashion this yr to Philly, NY and especially New Orleans the other night
