3 factors in the 94 NFC championship loss:
1. Loss of players - Norton in particular
2. 49ers were a very good team, if Dallas was the best, they were 2nd
3. Switzer wasn't the disciplinarian that Jimmy was - after the first turnover in the game, Jimmy would have lit up the team and likely that would have been the only turnover, but Switzer did nothing, and it just snowballed from there.

Jimmy could have lost the game, but I doubt he would have...
Don’t forget Aikmans horrid start and those 3 early turnovers which put us in 21-0 hole.

I give Switzer credit for winning with Jimmy's team. As he himself said, he could have lost with that team too. lol
Yep. Jerry proved anyone of 500 coaches could win with that team. Congratulations!!

The bigger issue though is what we left on the table. Few doubt Jimmy could have won 4 maybe 5 in a row.

That’s the tragedy in Jimmy leaving. We’ll never know. But who wouldn’t have wanted to find out? Probably everyone but Jerry.

Yea, each year that goes by proves that Jerry had less to do with building the 90's super bowl team than he cares to admit......it was 100% Jimmy.

Spot on. The harder Jerry has tried to prove it wasn't Jimmy, the more he's proved it was. The irony is that now that Jerry seems to have been stepping back from his involvement, if they win a Super Bowl or get to the NFCE, it will only reinforce the fact that it was Jimmy. Jerry can't win at this point.

And the non-PI call against Deion on Irvin compounded by the 15-yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Barry. We had ole mo up to that point and I believe would've won absent that debacle.

Huge Jimmy fan here.

But Jimmy and Jerry built the cap-less 90s Cowboys champions
Jimmy had some the best team of assistant coaches...paid for by Jerry...in NFL history
And the Cowboys DID win a Super Bowl without Jimmy coaching. “His players” or not, they did it without him coaching. And Jimmy never won an NFL title anywhere else.

Again, Im a huge Jimmy fan. But the legend is sometimes a bit much

Agree. Jimmy had a knack for leaving at the right time so as not to damage his legacy.

This^^^^^

The Football Idiot is still determined to prove that wasn’t all about Jimmy. Tick tock....
Do you really think the former captain of a college national champion and someone who has worked with or around Parcells, Johnson, and so many others...is a “football idiot”?

Sure, those great coaches are more football savvy, but I dont think a high IQ guy (and yes, he is that) that’s been around the sport for 50+ is football idiot.

There’s no guarantee we win even if we get that call on Irvin.

I was never prouder of the way our team came back. We definitely were a championship caliber team that ran into a buzz saw in the 1st qtr and valiantly attempted to come back from it.

49ers were just too good to overcome 21-0 deficit at their place. I think most knew the best team didn’t win but that’s what happens in a one game elimination format.

Like I said, imo if Jimmy had been the coach it wouldn't have been 3 turnovers, after the first one Jimmy would have lit up the players, and that includes Aikman...

Yes I do and here’s why because he continues to remain GM even when he’s admitted he’d of fired a GM with his recent record which his meddling prevents us from having a normal situation of command which would attract a greater front office and coaching staff that had more control over football operations. That’s idiocy if Jerry believes he knows best.

Which I don’t think he actually believes but his insistence on gaining credit for being a football guy placing his personal agendas above what’s best for Cowboys football should bring every Cowboy fan on his or hers feet in protest. It’s preventing us a greater opportunity for success which is either the kind of selfishness which totally disgust me or again Idiocy.

I understand his football history and obviously he knows football or we wouldn’t be as relevant as we have been but Idiocy to believe he as GM and his Son as VP provides us the best opportunity for success. If he does then it’s worse Idiocy than I thought.

No doubt Jerry had something to do with the 3 SB wins, but I have read too many interviews and seen too many interviews with people like Randy Galloway, Larry Lacewell, Frank Broyles and others that stated that early on Jimmy was in near-total control of the team, from selecting players to negotiating contracts to the actual coaching to determining his assistant coaches. Why would anyone believe that Jerry spent 25 years in the oil business while Jimmy spent 25 years coaching and yet somehow Jerry had great input to the coaching end of the business? We know that Jerry wanted Emmitt and Jimmy wanted Francis, and they got Emmitt, but the reason they got Emmitt was because Francis was selected 12th by the Bengals, so he wasn't available at 15, the Cowboys pick. If Francis had been there at 15 Jimmy would have gotten his way, but regardless Francis never panned out, so I give Jerry credit for wanting Emmitt instead.

But that's one player in one draft, hardly enough to indicate Jerry had this huge impact on the 3 SB wins. Jerry is no doubt a very smart guy, but intelligence means the ability to learn, not the actual knowledge. I'm sure we've all heard the old joke about Henry Kissinger on the plane, which had engine trouble and he took some guys backpack and jumped out of the plane, in other words he didn't have the knowledge about what a parachute looked like.

As years went on I do think Jerry got more and more football knowledge, but saying he had as much input as Jimmy early on doesn't make sense...

Of course.

When I call him Football Idiot that’s not describing his football knowledge as he’s probably the most knowledgeable football owner in NFL since Richardson is gone from Carolina who was only ex NFL player who owned a team.

Jerry’s Idiocy is believing or remaining in control of football operations if he believes his ways and his sons present our best opportunity for success.

Drafting is only one part of the equation. Crediting Jerry's stupidazz places very little importance on coaching. That's the sad reality of the situation. All the work, preparation, drills, schemes, development, confidence etc.. That team was elite because of Jimmy Johnson. I think some are fooling themselves with how Jerry was equally important. It's a load of crap, just like his subsequent 25 years.

I hear you.

But I tend to think the drafting and personnel decisions have gotten better lately. He doesn't seem to be dominating the decision making anymore, which you seem to be implying he still is.

I’d agree to a point but there’s still been enough poor risk that have Jerry’s stamp on them. And the results aren’t any better.

Jerry has always looked smarter with greater influence. Whether it was Jimmy or Bill.

No telling how smart he’d look with a normal front office and coaching staff with his resources and our record revenue. We might could dominate the league with the NFL’s dream team for which there is no Cap for.

But to assume he’s not still in the mix and making final decisions is naive . He’d never admit it if we do have more success because it’s that credit he’s pursuing and why he doesn’t want more qualified personnel who’d recieve more credit than him.

Fans are just wanting to steer away from Jerry because they are seeing better decisions which we’ve seen before as I mentioned. But he meddles just enough and prevents us from a better administration and coaching to have more success.

And until we do have more success it’s still basically more of the same.

I agree, I think Jerry realizes what's been done the last 25 years isn't working, as far as SBs is concerned, and he also realizes his time is running out, if he wants another title he'd better try something different..

I don't think many are of the opinion that he's not "in the mix", only that his influence is less than it was from say, 1995 to 2010 or so.

Personally I think he's "groomed" Stephen to eventually take over when Jerry is gone or unable to function, and goes with Stephen, and others' opinions more and more.

If he listens to Stephen and agrees to say, sign Martin asap, then just because Jerry makes the "final" decision, it doesn't mean he is in total control of the process, whereas years ago he was...

I don’t believe he wants another title unless he recieves the credit he’s been pursuing .

If not then he could step away. Name Stephen GM or bring in someone else . Let them decide our HC and give more control like the rest of the league does.

No, he sees his time might be running short and he’s dug in more than ever with Garrett because he’s seeing some progress and not aborting. I think he’ll go down swinging before he gives up control. Plus like most of the wealthy egotistical arrogant businessman I’ve been associated with believe they’re going to live forever.

And to Jerrys credit he looks pretty good for 76. The notion that at 76 he still believes he can do it and he still thinks he provides us the best opportunity to win is why I call him the Football Idiot. Lol

Ultimately whether there’s some better decisions being made it will be measured by the success on the field.

By the criticism I’ve seen of Garrett and the teams results these past few years since the better decisions apparently begun which was coincidently about the time Garrett took over , the better decisions haven’t resulted in more success on the field. So , until that happens it’s difficult to determine if the fruition is paying dividends?

Much like with Parcells. We saw better drafts, personnel decisions and team building but in the end Jerry meddled too much and steered us away. And I’m not convinced Stephen is any better. So far, looks like a cheapscape to me just to be. Will appearance seemed to be a greater influence who like Garrett we can connect their entrance to the better decisions.

As Bill said “ you have to convince Jerry to go against his instincts”. Sometimes you do and others you don’t. I do agree we’re seeing a greater influence. I credit Will and Jason but again until those results come in it’s more of the same.

I do, only in that as long as he's the owner, he'll knows he'll go get some credit, and reflected glory is better than none.

But you may be right, no way we can know for sure...
