First, a great post, and i totally agree, we need to get Pacman...

thanks for the post..I like posts like that which get the whole cranium working.

:D

The only thing I'd add to your post, as you pretty much encompass a lot of what seems to be a good conscencious around here as to what to, at least 'try', to do..

..is to prepare at least a niggle of comment about if neither a WR or Pacman actually happens and we get left with our 2 #1's and Parcells calls as soon as the clock strikes Draft Day and he's offering that #1 pick..?

I'm betting he's going to have Sparano and Ireland and several others on speed dial to the first 6 teams ringing them to field trade offers and Jerry Jones will be on hold on another phone for last refusal if a trade comes up.

What then..?

Because I'm convinced that will play out.

No way I'd trade into the #1 spot unless it was for the OT or DE. I would not do it for DMac when he's going to be available at #4 or lower. No one is looking at DMac at #1 in my opinion, and I wouldn't go up that high nor pay that #1 money.

If Pacman doesn't happen and no WR happens, then I think we have two options:

1. Stay put and take the best CB, WR, RB available with our first 3 picks.

2. Package a deal to move up 8=10 spots in order to get one of the top two CB's...then let the draft fall as it will. It's not crucial to get a RB on day one of the draft. We all want that, and it is preferable for the RB position, but it isn't necessary...after all the RB's get selected in the first 4 rounds, there will be plenty of inexpensive veterans in the summer that can be had cheaply, guys with experience who will be nice backups to MBIII.

Without Pacman, I think getting a CB we can count on will be crucial.

JJ seems to learned his lesson in recent years. I love the way he now works FA not in a panic, but in an attempt to clear up the draft so that he has no desperation and can improve his odds of keeping the Cowboys strong with a BPA approach.

IT's obvious that our most desperate position is CB. It's also clear that we need a player at WR who can be a threat in case Glenn is truly done. RB, while many are suggesting using #22, is actually about important depth.

Picking at #22 and #28, and then again at the end of round 2 is no way to find a difference maker at any position...it happens even later than that, but the Cowboys are a contender desperate for CB help.

If the Pacman deal goes down, suddenly we're a better team in the secondary than we were last season, and the draft is all about adding depth, including CB...this sets us up to take the best player available, whether it's CB, S, WR, RB, DL, or OG. I saw a poster getting hammered yesterday for suggesting the possibility of taking the best OG in the draft at #22. That OG from UVA is likely to be rated higher than half of the CB's, WR's, and RB's that many fans hope we select in round 1.

I love the rumors, whether they work out or not...it shows me that JJ has learned what the draft is really all about and that going into the draft in desperate need for a 3rd CB or any other position is a sure way to screw it up, especially when selecting in the 20's.

I'm hoping to see a trade for Pacman because I prefer having him and a drafted CB on the team with Newman and Henry rather than just the drafted CB. I'm also hoping for a WR deal...though I'd prefer Roy Williams to Chad Johnson at this point, I'd be happy with either guy. But CB is the draft-maker...with Pacman, all options open to take the best players, even if it means waiting till rounds 2 or 3 for a CB, WR, or RB, the positions everyone has assumed would be first up, even if they weren't the best players on the board.

JJ seems to understand how to keep his team strong by keeping the draft a simple process of adding the best players you can find at any positions.

CB is out most desperate need?

Our defense survived with out Newman for a stretch, our defense survived without Henry for a stretch because of an improved pass rush...and a pass rush that should cnoinue to improve with with Ware still getting better and a full season for Anthony Spencer

How did our offense do without TO?
