Dallas needs to beat Philly and deliver a message

I don't want to hear any woulda, shoulda, couldas at the end of Monday night. Elite teams like Dallas are supposed to win tough, divsional games at home, especially early in the season when everyone, for the most part, is healthy.

This is not the week for moral victories or excuses.

I couldn't agree more.

They need to come out and punch Philly right in the mouth and send the message, they're the big dawgs in the neighborhood...

Wow I couldnt agree more.. I have wanted and wished for so long that Dallas would be a bit more physical. We need to come out swinging and go for the knock out early... Keep our foot on their throats and never let up, NO MERCY.

It is somewhat of a statement game, although we're not going to be at full strength for this game and it is only week two, a loss doesnt ruin the season.

A solid win though would help erase the memory of those two embarrassing December losses at home to them the past two yrs though.

I don't care if we get a 15 yard penalty for unneccesary roughness, put a Philly play down, and put him down hard, if its a starter so beit, make them know we aren't here to play around, were here to hurt you and win.

Pretty sure we're gonna try to win every damn game we play, not just this one.

I think it's too early to worry about delivering a message. This team is good and Monday's game against Philly isn't going to either make or break it.

I'm learning to relax and enjoy the ride, and if Dallas loses to Philly then it's just a minor bump in a fairly long road to the destination we believe this team can reach.

Kinda like the Giants won all those tough games throughout the season against the Cowboys and Packers.

That's a good approach, but I so badly want the Cowboys to take this one. The Eagles are too smug for my taste, especially McNabb. Shut him up, at least until the next time. Plus, we need to defend our home turf against the East.

I think the pressure is on the Eagles. McChunky needs to prove he is back and the team is back. Dallas just needs to beat them down to show they are no joke.

We absolutely need to make a statement against this team for the entire league.

We need 100% focus and effort. We must leave no stone unturned and treat this like a play-off game.

I am sick and tired of this team "over achieving" against us. Let me explain what I mean when I say "over achieving".

The rivalry between these two teams can be broken down to two phases.
Pre1980 and post1980.

Pre1980 we owned them and built the 10 game lead in the current all-time series. This fits since seldom were they a good team, while from 1965-1980 we probably had the best record in football.

So the series record simply reflected the overall record of the teams.

The problem I have is with our teams record against the Eagles since 1980. Now I'm not going back and counting ever W and L over the last 28 seasons, but guessing we are about .500 against them since then.

To a certain extent this is exceptable because we haven't had quite the overall success 1980-2007 than we had 1960-1980. Although we did win one more SB, our overall winning percentage was lower.

Conversely the Eagles have won more in the last 28 years than they did from 1960-1980.

However, we have won more than they have in this current period of 1980-2008. We've won more games, we've had more winning seasons, more play-off seasons, more playoff wins.

We lead in NFC Championship Games 7 to 3, Superbowls 3-2 and SB wins 3-0.

There is no exceptable reason for there success against us.

The Cowboys need to understand that they need to treat Eagle week as the Eagles treat Cowboy week.

I wish I could learn that. Man, my stomach gets so tied up in knots before and during the games that I can't even eat anything. I know it's not smart, after all it is just a game. But I can't help it.

We delivered a message last week.

This week we just need to protect our own turf.

Oh, and since it's Filthy, kick a little *** doing it.

Exactly. The only "message" I remotely care about is this "Reid owns the Cowboys" nonsense from people like Cowherd... But in a couple months, this game will just be another W or L.

And see, that "relax and enjoy the ride" is how I do it. If we win, great -- I'll love reading all the articles and posts on here about it. If we lose, it's hardly the end of the world and there's a TON of season left to make up for it.

All people care about is December anyway, right? ;)

That's why I said "learning." Last year, I had such high expectations for this team that I couldn't take time to enjoy a 13-3 season. I was too busy looking at what we needed to do to improve and having the losses stick with me more than the wins.

This year, I'm trying to do like Romo has said, enjoy the journey. I don't want my team to lose, of course, but if it happens I'm going to take out of it all the positives I can get and attempt to move on, knowing that this team is good enough to achieve it all so I don't need to get caught up in one loss.

I'm more concerned with keeping all of our principle characters intact, so if we come out healthy I'll count that as a blessing no matter the outcome.

I want to win as bad as anyone else, but geeez, "statment game" in Week 2?
Typical overreaction/hype to an early season game. Come on. We got drilled by the Eagles in '92 in an early season battle of unbeatens on MNF and yet we physically dominated the Eagles in the playoffs later that season.

The Giants run last year and the Steelers run a couple of years ago are recent examples (and there are many many more, for example the '71 Cowboys) that point out the fact it's how you finish the season that is most important.

Way too early in the season to be talking about "statement games"...win or lose.
