Yes, it is an approved treatment for hyperhidrosis (excess sweating). It is also reversible if he doesn't like the feeling of having dry hands. It usually peaks at about 2 weeks and should mostly be out of your system by about 3 months.
It works for wrinkles by paralyzing muscles through its action at the point of contact between muscles and nerves. It does a similar thing if injected at sweat glands to prevent the release of sweat.
It is actually used for all sorts of things such as muscle spasms, writer's cramp, wry neck, excess salivation/drooling.
The reason why I'd suggest he try it first in the offseason is having palms too dry could also worsen his ability to hold onto the ball. He would have to see how comfortable he was playing with drier hands.
