JJT: Wade Phillips struggling as Cowboys' defensive coordinator

It doesn't seem to matter who the coach is.

it does matter; but the owner must back up the head coach like jerry jones did in the early years with jimmy johnson

what jerry jones has to get out of his head and ego is this;
jimmy johnson built the team in the 90's with the approval of jerry jones
when jerry jones won with switzer, the team was already built with leaders on the team, that held players accountable and assistant coaches that ran the show and didnt put up with any stuff from players

case in point after norv turner left, sloppy routes by the wrs were run, because jerry started hiring coaches he wanted and no discipline was instilled

jerry jones has to see that the team was built with players that wanted to pay the price to win, and wanted to win, and those players were established players;

for example, we lost ken norton jr, kevin gogan, stepnoski, kevin gogan, but we got deion sanders in 95, a player that wanted to be the best, but you had players like darren woodson, michael irvin, emmitt smith, jay novachek, charles haley, leon lett, star playmakers on this team;

thats what this team is missing to a degree star playmakers, players that want to be the best, not players like newman that wanted to be paid like the best, but players that produced on the field like playmakers

when you have leadership on the team, then what jerry jones said, any coach could run the team and get to the superbowl, but you had players and coaches that had won big games, knew what it took to get there and helped keep players in line;

thats what jerry jones hasnt understood yet, once he does that, then this team can step forward; and you have to hold players accountable

i dont know what was done for example to flozell adams for killing that drive with a dumb tripping penalty, but flozell knew better than that, to let him get away with that, is a mistake, you have to send a message that attitude and play will not be tolerated on this team, and you have to discipline flozell

till that is done, this team wont go forward;

and jerry jones realizes that;

Folks, unless things change significantly, the numbers in JJ'T's article spell certain doom for Wade Phillips. While we all know JJ doesn't think interim coaches work, how many more games of this will it take before he acts? If things continue like this, I'm not sure Wade will make it to mid-season. We'll see.

that right there is part of the problem on this team;
even mickey spagnola said that today, like when the giants kept 2 extra blockers to pass block they only had 3 receivers out to catch the ball, but we had 4 defensive backs in coverage and possibly more with linebackers in drops when we didnt blitz;

think about that for a moment;
we had 4 or more guys in coverage but they still couldnt cover, why?

someone posted about several dbs holding up their palms because they didnt understand the coverage, even the vet newman looked lost;

yet wade is suppose to be a guru on defense, where is the coaching?

we saw that wade fixed the run defense, after week 1, but why wasnt that done in preseason when it was suppose to; that to me points to either one of 2 things or both;

wrong coaching and players inept, yes stupid to understand defensive concepts

or either the players are lazy and dont want to learn;

it maybe all 3, but it sure has to be addressed;

now i look at it this way;
jason garrett knows his rear end is on the line this year, he has to produce

the cowboys have scored 30 points or more in each of the first 2 games, so in a way jason garrett is doing his job; the offensive line is playing better, teh running game keeps improving; etc

but the defense stinks; why?

Wade is gone... he lost the team! the media just doesnt want to jump the gun, therefore the fans dont see it... How can the players respect Wade when they know its not his call to cut players... Guys like Bobby Carpenter, Procter and Sam Hurd undermind the teams talent evaluation creating players just happy to get a paycheck!


Jerry will be forced to take action, I cant see Wade sticking around with excuses like that after every loss... Garrett will take the job and Campo will run the D, 3-4 and all!

i think jjt is right about jerry on coaching change, jerry has never fired a coach during the season,

now that could change if the cowboys season is bad

after watching the playing last night against a good nfl team, i put our win loss record at anywhere from 6-10 to 11-5. I am not sure about this team now, just dont understand them.

Like for instance like someone posted about wade saying on a route that one of the giants wrs ran, newman should have known that all the time the wr had time to run was a slant or go, something like that, yet newman looked confused and lost

scandrick looked confused too and i heard hamlin was totally confused

so i question the play calling and teaching on defense now from wade

it could be that wade like some people say, he just cant do both, be a head coach and be the defensive coordinator. I am not saying that wade was a great head coach to begin with. I didnt like his camp cupcake approach the first year, and still the way he runs camp with no tackling or hardly no pads, but having players run around in shorts

then you look at wade's history, denver, buffalo and now with us, has wade ever won a playoff game no;

that to me spells disaster

now if wade had just been a defensive coordinator and not headcoach, i say give him a chance, but now that wade has had to fix the run defense because he didnt run it enough in training camp because he didnt want to get players hurt, heck if your worried about gettnig players hurt in practice, let them wear extra padding or put some of the scout team players in at qb and wr etc and let them get hit on, but the defense must run the defense in practices till they get it down,

thats on wade for not doing it,now he is having to play catch up on defense

thats not a head coach to me;
