JJT: Zeke The Right Pick For This Team

He was on Friday's episode of The Right Time with Bomani Jones...

Paraphrasing: this team has opened up holes for guys Darren McFadden and Demarco Murray -- those 20-25 yard runs are going to turn into 50-60 yard runs, and 10-15 yard runs will become 20-25 yard runs...I wouldn't be surprised if Ezekiel Elliott had 1500-1600 yards this year.

Felt it was worth posting because he was saying something nice. Also believes that we're trying to be the type of team this year that gets up 14-0, 21-7 on teams early and force them to throw their gameplan out and start throwing the ball around too much.

I fully expect Zeke to rush for 1500 yards no problem barring injury. He better rush for 1500 yards.

I like the pic and 'think' he.ll be a great one, but I'm not ready to pencil in 1500 plus yards for a rookie. I think Cowlishaw had a recent article comparing him to Melvin Gordon who had a pretty awful rookie year but gaudy college stats.
I think around Todd Gurley type numbers is probably more realistic. 1000-1200 yards 8-10 tds

No comparison what so ever with Melvin Gordon. Completely different backs and even more lopsided is the team and the line that they play behind. San Diego Oline was terrible. And they gave Gordon like 10 touches a game.

Melvin Gordon is the go-to comparison for those who don't like Elliott or didn't like the pick.

Ezekiel is on a different level than Gordon. People who think they're similar just haven't watched enough of them both... Or they're just being Obstinate.

With this defense our opponents are probably going to ground and pound us.

Yeah, I'm on record as not wanting Gordon when he was drafted because there has never been a Wisconsin running back that had a highly successful NFL career, they are a product of that oversized and over powering oline,
Can you name a back from an Urban Meyer offense that had a successful career?

How does a team get up by big leads early when it doesn't have a pass rush or more than one competent LB? I think it's more likely that Dallas ends up behind 14-0 and then looks confused when the other team has taken away their plum top 5 rookie pick. Cut to luxury box shots of Jerry picking his nose and chewing on his fingernails.

I would be ok if Zeke had 1200+ and Morris had 800+

I wouldnt have an issue either. But then we would have to go back to the issue of drafting a RB #4. If they arent going to give this cat 25-30 touches a game, then they should have went defense.

To take a back at #4, he has to be an elite special back. A guy that you cant take off the field because he is so dynamic. Peterson type back. And I wouldnt expect any leads to be too safe this year.

Can you name a back from a Nick Saben offense that has had a successful career?
You may be able to say Eddie Lacey, but has he really set the NFL on fire?

Don't we have an overpowering line?

Urban's offense is not based on giving the ball to the rb 30-35 times a game like Wisconsin. When he has an outstanding back then he might run him hard but that's not the norm.

The Zeke problem is still there so until he is cleared, I wouldn't get to excited about him.
Now here is a guy that I will give the benefit of the doubt. Zeke will be cleared of these charges. Im not worried about him losing any time.

I hope so too seems like a great guy.
Its pretty obvious seeing the difference between a guy like MCClain, Gregory, and the Kraken compared to this kid Elliott. He seems top notch to me.

i disagree with this team and its weapons and Romo gonna put Zeke in the right run play at the LOS with This OLine... 1500- 1600yds is not at all not achievable and i didn't mention a healthy Dez goodness... but i think we gonna have to judge Zeke off of all purpose yards because of his game

He can run the whole route tree so he may get 1200-1300yds but also have 500+ receiving yrds with the way we talking about using zeke this year imo he's an all purpose back id rather have that than just a great runner

if we get lucky in the draft, the next QB after Romo could really benefit from the talent we have on offense...defense is another story.

Happy to have Zeke.

But JJT would absolutely not be the guy to ask for an unbiased thumbs up or down on this particular player.

Die-hard Ohio State fan who worships Zeke. Also a die-hard Parcells fan who loves ground and pound.

He may be right, but even if he wasn't he would give this same opinion.
