Our DBs are playing with much more confidence and organization then in years past. I was underwhelmed at moving Joe Baker over the CBs after Hendersons departure, but that group has been the most impressive I have seen here since 2009. Jackson has done just as well with the Safety group. Jones is playing like a top FS and we have seen a sizable rebound in Wilcox play

secondary is definitely playing well. Church has turned up his physicality. The hit he put on that Bengal wr and injured him was impressive. Mo knocked Labelle out of bounds with a nice hit too. It's been nice to see a secondary in Dallas playing with attitude. I hooe people keep talking bad about them.

Made a thread about this yesterday. I believe these coaches have made a difference. Defenders are getting their heads around and tracking the ball better.
I've seen more balls knocked down thru 5 games than all of last yr it seems.

The improvement of Wilcox is almost night and day. At least with Mo you could see the improvement starting last year. Byron's really good, but not quite there yet. Anthony Brown has been very promising, he just has to learn to use the correct arm/hand in defending passes. At this point, he might end up being better than Mo.

Pressure up front is helping the 2ndary immensely.

Say what? Outside of the Cincy game when they put some heat on, the front has not been getting much pressure at all this year. If anything, the secondary is playing even better than some think because they're having to cover extra long on account of the lack of pressure.

Nothing is that different except that for one game, they played agressive man to man coverage instead of zone. This was probably due to the quick 21-0 lead. As soon as they went back to the normal zone crap they gave up a score. Let's see what they do in Green Bay. If Marinelli goes back to the bend but don't break zone defense, all the players will revert back to the way they have always looked. We have mostly man coverage dbs but Marinelli rarely lets them do it.

Like I said in another thread about this, I forgive Jackson for separating Emmitt's shoulder now :)

When healthy Mo had played solid and now he is healthy
Wilcox has developed into a better player from playing. Remember he had almost no playing time at safety in college
Brown has been the biggest surprise and could be the real steal of the draft

What I see right now is a secondary who is not only playing man which they are good at but they were playing zones and doing very good vs Cinn. You did not have guys blowing assignments guys knew where to be and stayed within the scheme of the zone coverages.

Great post. There have been more batted balls and DBs actually just playing the ball and being aggressive than I can remember seeing in....well honestly I dont remember the last time weve played aggressively in the secondary. Weve always looked like we were scared and played soft giving up padding and making me nasueas. I still cant believe holding AJ Green in check like that.

During the offseason Matt Eberflus got promoted to passing game coordinator.

That's likely more about keeping him here instead of him moving on to be a DC somewhere else. Teams use those titles often just as window dressing for a guy's resume

I think Byron Jones getting added -- a true FS with range and coverage skills -- and having a year of experience is the most critical component. It puts everyone in a better position to accentuate their strengths rather than expose their weaknesses. He has them organized pre snap and has them understanding what the opponent is trying to do.

Zone is where I see the biggest change. Man is man. You either can run with the receiver or not. But zone is like OL play. Requires everyone to be on the same page. Now they seem much more organized when in zone coverages, thinking and moving as a group. They're passing their responsibilities off to the next man with confidence that the other guy has his responsibilities down. They anticipate what's going to happen rather than having to wait for it to have happened before they see it. Years past, they looked like the proverbial chicken with their head cut off.

Second and third biggest factor is playing with a lead and having a clock controlling offense. It makes defensive goals and responsibilities much more clear.
