Joe Milton Clear Waivers and is now a free agent

Howie Roseman knows that QB is by far the most important position on your team. You do not cut QBs that show improvement and have a superior arm talent.

Caelen Carsen: you can easily replace him (e.g. Reddy Steward on the practice squad).

Should Dak get hurt, Joe Milton would have given us hope and excitement. Sam Howell: it feels like Cooper Rush. Yawn.

Cooper rush had no mobility and a noodle arm. He did have a hot wife. You give Sam good line play and he will be a good backup.

No one picked him off waivers. He obviously didn’t do well at most other aspects besides PS games. Not one team picked him up and he was dirt cheap, doesn’t that tell you anything?

It tells me it's possible he won;t be on a team this year. But I'm not rooting for his demise to increase my perceived NFL acumen either.

I happen to think he'll land somewhere. It's poker season from these FA's all the way to trade deadline.

Maybe the league was surprised he was cut and people were cautious in claiming him too quickly until they knew why. He certainly looked better to me in the pre-season snaps I saw. Of course we don't know the whole story.

More likely that they saw him in college and then 3 games. He was a project in college and is still one. I will readily admit that he showed a dramatic improvement over his prior play - I watched him at U of TN, where he was abysmal. There's something else going on with him but I suppose we will find out in the coming weeks or months. The "trade him" talk by some here was laughable though.

no one is gonna claim someone this late to be a #2 qb. you havent seen them in camp, they dont know the system, they arent ready to play. claiming off waivers means you have to add them to the 53-man, which means you have to cut someone. teams are gonna wait for FA to add a maybe 2nd, maybe 3rd qb. someone will sign him

I honestly don’t think anyone rooted against him. Some thought he sucked but I doubt they’d complain if he succeeded. Unlike Dak if he succeeded, there’d be some miserable people round here. Lol

Seems like Milton is going to wait for a QB to go down somewhere so he has a chance to see the field. At least that is how I read his lack of signing to a practice squad.

If anyone thought he was at least a QB3 with development potential, someone would have claimed him.

Not really he's weighing his options my man why would he jump at it I think he's listening to people if he listens the right people he'll come back to the Cowboys All you need to do is get on a practice squad anybody's practice squad and you will be on a roster but in some cases if another team wanted they can go get you off another practice squad or they can seek a trade from the Dallas Cowboys or something I don't know how that works but if they protect him every week as one of the 4 protected then he can't get take but his journey needs to start not waiting I think he needs to weigh his options but in the next 48 hours he needs to get on a roster 'cause if not it's gonna sound like that his motivation's not there like they accused him of maybe not being in the right mind or whatever they said in that other thread he has underlying expectations about his skill set and where he belongs he needs to settle down and come to reality come to the Cowboys are probably the best place for him...


All it takes is a rash of injuries prescott how old and play well and bam he's starting that is what you need to do You already know the roster the coaches and the system this is the best place it might be the long road but better players have waited longer to get a starting position in this league than you so why don't you calm down and come play for the Cowboys you never know when your moments coming. You never know when your moments coming


Getting on a bad team just to play is not the best way to get better Being with less talent and an offense you don't know and new terminology that is not in my opinion the best way to go but I'm not him...

The CBA dictates the range for PS players, however a team can still sign the player to a contract that pays them a higher rate if/when they are elevated to the 53-roster during the season.

So a team could offer him a better roster contract than the Cowboys and it would be a better deal for him if he thought it would be elevated at some point.

Whatever they make as practice squad gets automatically boosted up to a set amount when or if they get called up. You can't pay a game day active player, practice squad money

Right, that's what I said .. it increases to roster veteran minimum if elevated to roster by default before contract is factored in.

However, they can sign a player (ex: many older veterans get signed and placed on PS now during seasons) to a much larger contract that stipulates that when elevated they will get their contract rate and when on PS they will get max PS rate based on their years in the league from the CBA.

Both guys played well and both guys should be on the team.

We may have been just cutting him at this time next year. I just thought both he and Howell played well enough to deserve a spot for now.

A couple believe he can usurp Dak and take his spot. Which is wild.

If anything, the most ideal situation was Dallas flipping Joe for some draft selections after his amazing preseason. Yet we saw Dallas tried and no one was buying.

Nobody grabbed him.

Maybe he ends up on our practice squad, or maybe he is butt-hurt enough to not accept it.

It’s all about the upside for me.

Joe Milton is an extraordinary athlete that doesn’t come along too often. I would exhaust every resource to attempt to develop those abilities.

Yeah, there are always some who overreact either way.

I don't think it was ridiculous to think he might bring us a late-round or conditional pick or that he might develop into at least a backup. But anyone upset because we were losing a potential starter was overreacting, just like those claiming Milton didn't show anything worth keeping him for this preseason. There was an overemphasis by some over his first two preseason performances and an overemphasis by others over his third one.

Overall, it's rare to hit on late-round picks or UDFAs at any position, much less QB. We get our hopes up because of players like Brady or Romo, but most of these guys are going to amount to nothing. You keep trying and throwing darts because of those occasional ones who do turn out to be players.
