Actually, I wanted noting, because I didnt want him traded. I never mentioned the team should trade him for xxx, not once. This is what I wrote yesterday. This info came from Mike Fisher about what was happening with Milton, and he was absolutely 100% correct.

when all the cuts were made on day 1,teams did their jockeying and used up what they felt were reasonable moves of dropping players to claim others. Now, Milton is cut on the 2nd day and teams really weren't willing to then drop other players to add Milton. Im paraphrasing. But basically, this was their plan and gamble they were willing to make. So far, that plan is on schedule. If Milton does sign back to the practice squad...then that shows that was exactly their plan. He also said, maybe a team did offer a late pick, like a 6th or7th, and Dallas said no, because they wanted him back and didnt want a crap 7th for Milton, in hopes they could execute their plan and get him back. Im paraphrasing here, but that is basically his point.


As I already said, this was no Fish speculating or guessing. He absolutely got this info from someone inside the star. He almost assured us that this was exactlywhat was happening, and he was right.
IM very happy. I like Milton. Im not saying he is taking Dak's job or in competition, but Id like to see him stick around a while and see what happens. He looked pretty good in Preseason, and thats all you can ask from a backup qb. MUCH better than much of the QB play we typically see in preseason.

I guess when I see that there's not this overwhelming league wide interest in obtaining him(ahem, sarcasm extreme) then that better provides me the reality of his actual not so legendary Cowboy status as a quarterback.

Was there really a controversy? Schotty talked to Milton and explained the entire plan.

The only controversy is what fans concoct. Milton is safe on the practice squad. He was free to pluck off waivers for 24 hours. He was free to sign as a free agent almost another whole day.

Second, they basically said they value winning now (Howell) over ceiling and development (Milton).
Lastly, he's still exposed on the practice squad. If someone wants him on their active roster, they can get him anyway.

So, if this was over $2million, I still say it's shortsighted. This is the kind of Pink Panther clever moves that results in high-fives but still mask a flawed overall approach.

That's not exactly how it works, but you aren't wrong ..

A practice squad player can be signed to a contract off the PS by another team, but they could have already done that after he was released.

Also, Milton could decline any offer as the PS player is not required to accept the deal. It's not like claiming players off waivers.

The catch is that if Milton is signed off the PS by another team, he has to be on their active roster at least three games I believe.

Yes, occasionally a player will refuse but it doesn't make a ton of sense to do so. And I think each week the team can protect 4 of the players. So there are some limits. I was just clarifying that him being on the PS doesn't mean he is untouchable by other teams.

He was originally on the 53 and probably would have stayed there had they not been awarded the player they wanted off waivers. A 3rd RB will play and help the team more than a third QB.

Howell won the backup job based on having a better grasp of the offense. Schotty said so at his presser yesterday. Also said Milton was wanted back because of the work he put in and the progress made. It was very close between the two and Dallas picked the more consistent, experienced player.

Lastly, if someone wanted Milton on their roster, they were asleep at the wheel the past two days. Milton spent 24 hours on waivers and almost another 24 as a free agent. ZERO takers. I doubt someone will suddenly decide to cut one of their own players and pay him to be on their 53 for at least three weeks.
