In that scenario, assuming you didn't see it coming, you gotta defend yourself.

From reading some of the reported background of Mixon's case, he had the opportunity to leave (and some of his teammates apparently did), but he lingered on and engaged the girl and her friends. He should have walked out long before that happened.
I would have just turned my back and left. Her punches didn't seem that powerful

The story is that she was all over him earlier in the night...way worse than later and inthe vid.
She then started it up again and he made the fateful decision to respond.
Cost himself many many millions.

Yep. I've read that, as well. That her verbal abuse was a sustained 20 minutes long. She hit AND spit on him. And he was instantly remorseful about the punch.

So I'm not saying she deserved getting "knocked the *bleep* out" but I understand..

That's a bet I'd be willing to take. I think he will.
Yeah.
That was 2014. He was suspended an entire season, did a ton of communty service and stayed out of trouble.
The guy doesnt even drink.

I hate to come across as an apologist, but it seems some of these guys are getting baited into potential lawsuits.
He has to know this though, and just leave.

I for one hope he gets a shot at the nextlevel.
I think he will

For all intents and purposes, he was a good kid before the incident, and has been a good one since the incident. People seeing the video for the first time now want vengeance on her behalf. But the case has been prosecuted in the court of law. He should absolutely have the right to play and make a living in the NFL if someone drafts him.

Like I always say.....you wanna act like a man then take it like a man. This is not in all situations of course. If a female wants to attack like an MMA fighter or use a weapon(tool) of some sort, then it is fair game.

But, if a female just shoves, pushes and slaps a man......then do not hit back. There are other ways to get your point across.

From just the video evidence, Mixon was in the wrong. She didn't do enough to warrant a Tyson TKO. If this was a long, drawn out verbal/physical fight, he should have just went home and called it a night. Can't put yourself in that situation by even being there.

Meh... I don't expect 18-year olds to do the smart thing all the time. And my position is still the same. Don't hit unless you expect to get hit back. Not everyone is going to walk away.

I left that part out, kids don't do the sensible thing often. The hitting part is in agreement, if you don't want to be hit, then don't swing first

She pushed him which I don't think means that she should be punched. He sorta jabbed her a bit and then she struck him on the side of the neck and then he clocked her.

I don't believe a woman should take advantage of societal norms. There was a case in the Bronx where something similar happened and they were going to arrest and convict the man before the video became available. He had walked away and the woman took the heel of her shoe and smacked him in the face with it. He turned around and overhand slapped her. That was a difficult argument because he had to turn around and strike the woman.

My grandfather used to be a boxer and he taught me to avoid fighting somebody where it's clearly not a fair fight unless you have to defend yourself. So thinks like striking a drunk person or even a guy with glasses on wasn't something to be proud of.

That's kind of how I feel here, he could have defended himself without having to knock her out. Sorta like somebody throwing a spit wad at you and coming back with a bazooka.

I do believe he should get a chance at the NFL. People make mistakes...particularly horrible ones. But, he should be treated psychologically and have to be cleared after a 1-year suspension.

I have no problem sticking up for a man that violates societal norms when it comes to women, but the punishment didn't fit the crime and the last reason why he did it was for self defense.

Whatever the circumstances surrounding the disagreement, she hit first. That alone opens you up to a response, whether a guy punches you back or not. Folks need to keep their hands to themselves.

I agree with you that people should not hit each other, but as a guy who has been punched square in the face by a girl, you don't need to hit her back. Just walk away and be done with it.

The damage that you do is going to be 100x greater than anything she can do to you. Especially for a guy his size. In fact the girl who punched me broke her hand and I can honestly say it didn't hurt at all.

But every guy doesn't walk away and that's the risk you take when you hit someone. Her loss of control led directly to her getting punched. You could make an argument that his reaction wasn't on par with her initial action. But if she doesn't hit him first, then she doesn't get knocked the **** out. And that's pretty much my take on things.

I'm too scary to wager anything real.. But I'm open to just bragging rights. lol

I think the guy will get drafted.

Yeah, that's what I'm referring to as well. Makes it easier for both of us too. Maybe a 'tag of shame' deal where we'd just have to put '*****' was right and I was wrong under our names for a month?
