That is in keeping with the Cowboys organizational philosophy of zero accountability.
First and foremost, a coach should never throw his player under the bus when talking to the media. Defend them to your grave, even if you don't believe what you are saying. Have the actual conversation with them behind closed doors. That's part of having accountability to your players as their coach.

Of course, the coach stands behind his player. What does "accountability" mean in this situation? If you cut everybody who has screwed-up this year, the Dallas Cowboys would have a roster count near zero.
He’s trying to build up the players confidence.

if a player thinks the coach doesn’t have their back, it’s over.
He's a borderline roster player no reason to have his back.

I'm sorry but if you think burying the practice squad player who messed up somehow makes the team better than you are delusional. All it does is try to gloss over every other mistake made that game and would look impulsive and childish.
EXTREMELY lazy to not assign a weighting factor to every play. Pointing out a mistake is more critical than others, and taking responsibility for it, is the most adult thing you can do.

You don;t need fired, necessarily. You do need to take responsibility for it.

You think this fumble is the same "mistake" as an offsides forcing a punt? You surely could go down the rabbit hole about it...but staying on the surface is more useful.

Question: When Jerry hires Kellen Moore as HC, will he force Kellen to keep Fassel as ST coach?

What a genuinely odd thing to say. So, you're suggesting that a coaching staff should "have the backs" of certain players, but not others ("borderline roster players")? Man, what a way to get guys to perform for you. Please tell me you're not a coach anywhere.

Well, I mean today's other thread has McCarthy saying the Cowboys are operating like winning teams do. Then the other day you got Dak saying he wants McCarthy back. So it's only fitting that Fassell would further try to rationalize both player and coaching stupidity.

And fans wonder how the Cowboys got here.

This just sounds like a good old fashioned recipe for Jerry's running it back and all in campaign for 2025.

Who's with me?

Cowboys!

Did jimmy have the back of the lb who fell asleep in the meeting. It's football not ballet.
