That is in keeping with the Cowboys organizational philosophy of zero accountability.
First and foremost, a coach should never throw his player under the bus when talking to the media. Defend them to your grave, even if you don't believe what you are saying. Have the actual conversation with them behind closed doors. That's part of having accountability to your players as their coach.

Of course, the coach stands behind his player. What does "accountability" mean in this situation? If you cut everybody who has screwed-up this year, the Dallas Cowboys would have a roster count near zero.
He’s trying to build up the players confidence.

if a player thinks the coach doesn’t have their back, it’s over.
He's a borderline roster player no reason to have his back.

I'm sorry but if you think burying the practice squad player who messed up somehow makes the team better than you are delusional. All it does is try to gloss over every other mistake made that game and would look impulsive and childish.
EXTREMELY lazy to not assign a weighting factor to every play. Pointing out a mistake is more critical than others, and taking responsibility for it, is the most adult thing you can do.

You don;t need fired, necessarily. You do need to take responsibility for it.

You think this fumble is the same "mistake" as an offsides forcing a punt? You surely could go down the rabbit hole about it...but staying on the surface is more useful.

Question: When Jerry hires Kellen Moore as HC, will he force Kellen to keep Fassel as ST coach?

What a genuinely odd thing to say. So, you're suggesting that a coaching staff should "have the backs" of certain players, but not others ("borderline roster players")? Man, what a way to get guys to perform for you. Please tell me you're not a coach anywhere.

Well, I mean today's other thread has McCarthy saying the Cowboys are operating like winning teams do. Then the other day you got Dak saying he wants McCarthy back. So it's only fitting that Fassell would further try to rationalize both player and coaching stupidity.

And fans wonder how the Cowboys got here.

This just sounds like a good old fashioned recipe for Jerry's running it back and all in campaign for 2025.

Who's with me?

Cowboys!

Why? Because the kicker is awesome or because Turpin is so fast.
First of all we can all have a discussion about purging the entire coaching staff would be best but fossil has not been a bad coach let's get it straight I mean I don't see what you don't like about him he did not call a block all he's doing is defending his player... The guy who blocked the ball he just beat his guy and what is he supposed to do just stop this is football you're in the line of fire at full speed when you beat your guy you block the ball that's your job is to block the ball I mean literally it was the other team's fault for not blocking him and let him go relatively free the block wasn't the problem it was the touching that was the problem and from what I hear if you hear the player he said because the crowd was so loud when the ball got blocked he didn't even realize it was blocked he didn't hear any calls to stay away from the ball because it was so loud and it happened so fast the ball was going right by him he didn't know if it was a live ball or not so he went for it he ***** it up and we get a draft picklevel up because of it..

People are making a big deal about this but this is sports and when guys are playing sports full speed live in game singer happening super fast and accidents happen Jimmy Johnson and his special teams coach had this happen I mean with Leon it's supposed to be the best coach staff in the world most disciplined players that ever get hurt they never get out of place they never make a mistake and they don't do things off the field to embarrass the team or they would be cut oh wait a minute all that stuff is untrue White House Leon let we can go on and on this is no different than any other era or any other coaching staff mistakes happen it happened to Dan Quinn right the watermelon football thing in 2020 when we beat him I mean supposed to be a well coached team right different than the Dallas Cowboys no this is just sports player made a mistake and in this case it doesn't anything it cost us a game that we know we could have won and that we should've won but yet we get it better draft pick spot now and you know what that's a win win to me yes we were good enough to beat a team that was supposed to blow us away they literally were picked in every single pregame prediction and most people here were saying it was gonna be a blowout and really the Cowboys at that moment in the game and most of the game could have won that game but they didn't let's move on.. It's a learning experience for the player he knows he did something wrong but he didn't realize it at the time things were going too fast bullets were flying as they say smoke was all around yes usually there are players yelling to get away from the ball but when you're in that kind of crowd look at all the people that are around him and yeah it's odd too that the home crowd was so loud and it was full of blue by the way blue and white everywhere I thought the protests were supposed to keep the seats empty and that a losing season people would start selling their seats in the opposition that's not what it looked like and that's not what it sounded like and in this case the player couldn't even hear because when it was blocked the whole entire 70,000 plus were screaming so loud he didn't hear anything...

Happens all the time. It's a meritocracy. Worked for Jimmy Johnson
