Why do people drink alchohol? Because it tastes good?

Then drink it becasue its a stimulant. Whether you drink one or ten, its abuse.

for the record Im not a goody two shoes, I could care less, I just didnt agree with your analogy.

Talk about bad analogy, thats a bad analogy. Like Blinzebra noted above, Alchohol is not stimulant.

Heck I know plenty of smokers, who only smoke when they drink. And they only drink maybe once a week. So you think they are addicted to Achohol and Cigarrettes? If you think so, then you don't anything about addiction.

I have been with some drug addicts, who stay clean for a weeks then go on binges suddenly. So it doesn't mean that if you drink, smoke or snort something only once in few weeks, but that once is just extreme binge, then thats addiction. But if you just smoke a joint once a bluemoon or snort something once in few weeks, it doesn't mean he has addiction.

Anyway bottom line is, any addict usually has some issues real or percieved. And seems like QC has and had issues.

yeah I would say if they smoke and drink once a week then there is most definately some sort of addiction there.

any kind of patterned usage would indicate an addiction to me anyway even if its an irregular pattern.

Well, consider Mediterranean cultures that have a glass of wine with every dinner..alcoholism rates are low in these countries, and they rarely bother to put age limits on alcohol use. A 14 year old can have a glass of wine with dinner too, can be sent to the store to buy a bottle, no ID needed, and there is virtually no binge drinking by teens or young adults.

There is a definite pattern of usage - a daily one in fact - but it's a pattern of alcohol consumption which is moderate and even healthy (moderate wine consumption is actually recommended by many doctors for its beneficial effects on the heart). Folks don't drink to get drunk, or even to catch "a buzz". Drinking is not done to loosen up, unwind, and certainly not to get "wasted". Wine with dinner is as natural as coffee after it.

There are many folks in our country who also drink very moderately, as a preventive health measure or simply because it is the tradition.

It isn't how often one drinks that defines addiction, it is what happen when one drinks, physiologically and psychologically, and why one drinks.

Drinking to get drunk, or getting drunk every time one drinks, even if it's just once a year, is the 'red-flag' pattern.

Who knows. Maybe we've got some other guys who have issues with drugs.

BTW -- Does anyone know if Q was really a drug addict -- or if he was just a casual user who got caught a couple of times?
Since Marijuana is NOT addictive and since QC was purported to have been caught with only Marijuana in his system I'd have to say that QC likely was not a drug addict per se. I would have to say that he was either a habitual user (ala Ricky Williams) or he was an occasional user who just got caught. My guess is that he probably used more when he was under pressure or he perceived that he was under pressure like when they brought in Hutch or Vinny to compete with him.

Bad analogy.

Because if you get drunk after work every Friday you just may have a problem and what part of Carter's story, post Dallas, suggests he does not have an issue?

A casual user does not get caught 3 times, unless they are a complete idiot.;)

I was a casual pot-smoker, smoked when I wanted, and could put it away, it didnt' control my life, I think Quincy was just an idiot lol

...in Mediterreanean cultures where youth are allowed to consume alcohol it is often associated with food.

Unlike North America where ads permeate media showing alcohol as a necessary ingredient to having a good time or the instant primer to a party.\

Definitely different attitudes to what is just another liquid.

My point exactly David.

The 'need' to get high is the problem, not the substance itself.
