John Madden nailed Zimmer best

Who are you crappin? Madden didn't nail Zimmer; he nailed Parcells. This is Parcelss 3-4 scheme, which he imposed on Zimmer. It has also been Parcells who repeatedly says "we ask Ware to do a lot of things". like cover receivers on passing downs. If Zimmer had his way, he would be running the league's #1 4-3 defense, and Ware would be playing like Charles Haley at DE.

Putting this critcisn on Zimmer is laughable! Please!

OK. Here's the deal. When Zimmer ran the 4-3 it looked pretty good. Now he has to run the 3-4. Early, it looked real good. Teh last 6 weeks it has looked like poo. SO...either Zimmer needs to go or we have to go back to a 4-3.

It is what it is.

First off that wasn't a reciever, that was Morris who came out of the backfield and moved out to the flank, and who else responsability is it suppose to be besides the OLB, that was a three or four WR set before he went in motion. would you rather James rotated out there?

You left out the most important comment: "The Cowboys Defense always looks confused." Then he made the remark about Ware covering and him being the only pass rusher. Zimmer is going to be the scapegoat but he's not doing anything BP isn't telling him to do...

BINGO!

I don't understand this logic. So, does BP get credit for Bellichick's defenses because Bellichick wasn't doing anything that BP didn't tell him to do?

John Madden didn't say anything that 99% of the people on this very board have already said. Ware is our Haley..........he should be used that way........ALL THE TIME.

I feel it is on Parcells more so due to the fact that he forcefed this 3-4 to Zimmer when he is a 4-3 DC. Look back to the year we ran the 4-3 and our Defense was a top 5 and evaluate the talent we had then versus now. Our Defense today has more talent than 2003 team but is not utilized. I think we could switch back to the 4-3 and be very successful with the players we have. Of course you always try to upgrade when you can. If we go back to a 4-3 i would like to see this line up with the current players.

Ellis Spears Ferguson Ware
Carpenter James/Aydele Burnett
Newman Williams Watkins Henry

Backups would be Canty Ratliff Coleman Hatcher
Fowler Glymph
Glenn Elam Jones Reeves
We still could run a 3-4 on occasion. Lets just hope the Offseason and Draft will help improve our deficiencies.

I don't like the 3-4 but didn't particularly care we swithced to it. Why Bill didn't hire a 3-4 guy with experience to run it is the real question.

Good Question i guess he used Zimmer like a Testaverde and Bledsoe... A bus driver to lead the defense.

exactly. Zimmer needs to be shown the door. I do't know why he's not getting through to the players so they understand their assignments, but he's not reaching them and therefore needs to not be resigned.

The only thing I can say about this...

Ware is a LB.

This is a defense that looked set when the season began. Free safety looked like, perhaps, the lone weakness.

Now, we don't have a single pass rusher outside of Ware. The defensive line, considered a strength before, needs upgrading. The linebacking unit is in shambles, especially the recently-highly paid Bradie James. Henry, thought to be a good corner, is a bit of an enigma. Roy Williams, a highlight reel player at time, has considerable weaknesses that are exposed. The free safety remains a question mark.

Oh, and the defensive coordinator is a tool.

Where do you even start to improve this thing? I honestly don't know. Don't have a clue.

Where I would start is raiding the other teams that play the 3-4 in this league of their linebackers. In particular, the ILB position. Bradie James, and as much as I love LSU, is a liability in pass coverage. He is consistently out of position and was the reason Stevens got that second touchdown. He was beaten on the route and Williams had to hustle over to try to stop him. That was a man-for-man route. I would love to see Jerry Porter or Larry Foote in a Cowboys uniform next year.

If you want to play the 3-4, we need more experienced players in it that have played the scheme. Period.

Zimmer has done nothing to deserve such praise. Ever.

And don't give me that crap about the 2003 defense. There were still some typical Zimmer moments, such as the Miami game where are defense was suddenly nowhere to be found.

Under Zimmer our defense has been average. Giving up big plays in big games is his trademark.

Granted, Parcells is partly to blame as well. He is the one that got the players he wanted. Doesn't help that they happen to be slow as my grandmother.

Paraphrasing:

"Why is Ware covering a WR on a passrushing down "? "The Cowboys only have one pass rusher and yet Ware is running 30 yds down field"

" One thing I've noticed over the past few weeks is that the Cowboys defense never seems set until the last second , there's always pointing going on"

Mike Zimmer, needs to get outta my face...:bang2:
I don't remember Zimmer saying "I'm trying to make Ware a linebacker". I do remember Parcells saying that. Zimmer is doing what Parcells tells him to do. How do you not understand this?

Then why do we have Zimmer?

Get rid of him if Parcells is the one doing all of the work. I mean, if it is all on Parcells what is the damn point of paying Zimmer money?

I say get rid of them all. Every single one of them. But that is just me.

That's right. Zimmer is a 4-3 guy. Who do you think, in large part, is advising Zimmer of the intricasies of running a 3-4???

I'll give you a hint, he needs breast enhancements.

Spend millions on free agents and draft picks and go cheap on the coaching staff. Go figure.

Hopefully, he rectifies that situation. Won't Dom Capers be available?

A new DC....new coaches.....Go find a experieced 3-4 guy like Rex Ryan, bring him in and let him know he will step up when BP steps down...

Don't you just love it when the WR goes into motion, and NOBODY is covering him, and the DBs are just standing there, and a Defensive lineman has to run off the line and cover the WR? Who ever is running the defense is a Genius!
