I'm not good judging how college dts translate. I'd like to know how Mazi compares to Payne coming out of Bama
Well 1 was the 13th pick and the other is projected late 1st/early 2nd. So trying to compare them as equals is kinda pointless from the jump.
Mazi Smith is also listed at 6’3 337 and Payne was 6’3 311 so again, not really similar players.

While Payne didn’t have the college sack production it was easy to see the burst he played with. Smith moves well for his size, but he’s not a quick twitch pass rushing DT. I’d put the odds at pretty low of Smith ever having a 10+ sack season like Payne did last year.

Smith is still much bigger, but if you want to compare his play style to a former Bama DT I’d say A’Shawn Robinson would be closer…who can be had as a free agent.

Payne was late first until the combine though. When he ran that 4.90 it was a wrap. As for Mazi being 337 I don't know about that. I'm no expert bit he looks around the same size as Payne but well see. As for him not being quick twitch.......I hear you

Payne is in the 320's now. He has put probably 10 lbs in the pros

That’s surprising. I’ll have to to give him another look.
I have read/heard that he is more of a day 3 prospect, where teams can get him at a discount price due lack of production/injury concerns.

Ricks is good. He's actually what people thought joseph was coming out. I'd Def take him round 2. He has good change of direction and stays in receivers hip pocket. Plus Dane changes his rankings all the time so it's not finalized.

It's still early, draft slots will change.

I would like Schmitz or Vorhees. I like them over the Florida kid.
I’m about at the point I think I’d take Schmitz in the 1st and just figure it out between him and Biadisz.

I need to actually watch him but everything I hear about him screams 1st rounder and “difference maker.” He might be better than Linderbaum was last year.

I don’t care for it. I don’t mind the players but there are other players I would prefer

I don’t see Smith as a 1st rounder, but he has the traits and upside to certainly be taken anywhere in round 2. There’s a lot to work with and he can become an impact guy.

Dallas actually drafting interior DL in the first is pretty laughable. Even if the Red Sea parted and Jalen Carter miraculously fell to them, would anyone be surprised if they passed?

I don't see Smith as a huge reach in the late 1st, especially with the combine/prodays yet to be held.

If Mazi has a good 10 yard split and vertical jump and his arm length isn't an issue I could see him creeping up to the first. I think Sparq wise he'll score pretty high for a true DT.
