I understand this thought process, but I can't get behind it. If Green gives us a better chance of success if even for a few games, then I'm for him starting. I think that's more important than any perceived cohesion loss. It isn't like if he goes down we're having to bring in another guard who hasn't worked with the first unit. Both Cooper and Bell are spending time there and I don't think we'll miss a beat as far as continuity goes, just as we didn't when Green had to step in at tackle.
Like I said, if it's close, give it to the guy you think can stay healthy. If it's not close, give it to the player who is clearly better and let the rest take care of itself.
By watching practice.... You'd see Chaz is better than Cooper
It is obvious....
I too think that they should have resigned Leary. Of course with cap considerations if we can replace him with a less expensive substitute and get the same level of play, that is preferred.
I would have also looked to add a running back in the draft. Maybe Smith makes that moot. I am hoping so. It would be a tragedy to fail to have a RB capable of carrying this team without Zeke in case of suspension, or injury with this current OL. A ******* tragedy.
Not really. We have a Craigslist ad out at LG.
They just went 13-3 and the 1 seed. They should have tagged Leary, moved Collins to RT (accepted now but so many here scoffed at this 6 months ago), told the head coach to quit being a coward and get his team prepared to play down the stretch of the season and into the playoffs, and made a real run at it this year.
Instead they chose to weaken their greatest strength. Makes zero sense to me. We have a Craigslist ad out at LG.
As for RB, Morris is quite capable of carrying the load. He's the best option to replace Zeke once his year long suspension is announced. McFadden is a role player. He's best to compliment Zeke not replace him. Smith doesn't deserve a mention. He's this year's camp story.
While Morris looked good in the preseason game I think he is done.
Not really.
Minus the game he just played where he looked really good he's a shot player.
What? Let me guess. Rod Smith is where it's at now?
The reason I don't believe in Cooper at this point is we are his 4th team.
One of his 3 previous teams was the Patriots and if the Patriots don't think you can play then I don't like your odds.
This is a league that is desperate for quality linemen and he has been cut 3 times already.
For us to get the quality we are hoping for I think it will have to come from Chaz Green.
I don't know that Rod is a player yet. I haven't arrived at that conclusion yet. I am convinced Morris is done.
I think you may have me confused with someone else. I wanted Mixon drafted to back up Zeke.
Morris is not done. He may be "done" in Dallas but there is plenty of gas left in that tank. I am not sold on Rod yet either

I'd prefer to let Leary walk and Get Martin signed to a long term dealThey just went 13-3 and the 1 seed. I would have liked to have kept Leary but since we let him walk I kind of wish we would've done more to address the talent.
I liked Green at tackle and he looks like a heavy handed player that can probably drive guys off the line like Leary did somewhat but I just don't trust him to stay healthy and I don't know how he will do getting to the 2nd level of a defense on run blocks.
I keep going back to something that Cooper and Leary said.
Cooper commented that he had never been around an Oline that worked as hard as the OL in Dallas worked. Seemed like he knew he had to step up.
Leary, after arriving and practicing in Denver, commented that those guys, the Denver OL, needed to work harder.
Obviously Leary had become accustomed by a level of work that wasn't there in Denver.
Obviously Cooper was introduced to a level of work that he hadn't experienced before.
THese quotes made me hope that Cooper "Gets it" and could finally start to achieve that potential he had coming out of college and that being around those other OL in Dallas can help him get there.
Don't see it that way. McFadden is the clear backup and would carry the bulk of the load if Zeke missed time for any reason. He was fine in that role in 2015 in this offense so I can't see the coaches not trusting him to do that again.
So that makes it a question of whether you keep Morris just in case even though he does not contribute as anything other than a ball carrier. Smith is a core special teammer and is on the first team on those units. His value there wins the day unless he just blows it as a back, which he hasn't done. His versatility to also play fullback if needed just adds to what he offers.
We could go with four backs to keep Morris in case of emergency, but that roster spot would be an expensive insurance policy.
