I actually like Cleary and I think it bodes well for him that he's getting the chance to play some left guard too.

Well, I'm probably being harder on him than I should based on the fact that he's just bounced from team to team. He did play well when he was called on last year.

I really liked Cooper coming out (though he was overdrafted). I agree with you that the injury problems plus the getting cut from that Pats have me pretty leery of relying on him. I'm kind of pulling for Green, myself, at this point. Though I'm happy if either comes in and holds down that job.

Even though I just want someone out there who plays as well as Leary or better, one reason to hope it is Green is contracts.

Cooper signed a one-year deal and is going into his fourth year, so if he starts and plays well then he's going to want a long-term deal in the offseason. Bell also signed a one-year deal and would be an unrestricted free agent.

Green has another year on his contract, so if he played well as the starter and stayed healthy, we'd get to see if he can do it again next year before having to make a decision.

Considering that we'll likely sign Martin to a long-term deal sometime this year, then have to do the same thing with Collins if he shows he's the future at right tackle, it would be good for Dallas to have a low-cost option at starting left guard at least for another year.

And a staff that doesn't get pass happy at the wrong moments

I dont think that will be a problem since they have modified the system last year to a much simpler and shorter throwing distance offense

Jonathan Cooper is one who I'm interested to see how he responds to a new organization with a much better culture of work ethic than some of his pervious stops.

It also won't hurt if he has to play sandwiched between the greatest left tackle to play the game and someone on his way to being the greatest center to play the game. Yes, I'm going there with 3/5 of our offensive linemen. Smith, Fredbeard, and Martin will be all time GOATs by the time it's all said and done.
