Way off base there. Henson signed a 6 year $17 million guaranteed contract with the Yanks in 2001, that is guaranteed money. If he was in it for the money, why would he walk away from that for an 8 year contract with the Cowboys for a guaranteed $3.5 million? Makes no sense using your logic. Dallas gave him no signing bonus and he made the rookie minimum of $238,000 in his first year with the Cowboys. So why walk away from the Yanks deal? As far as money, Henson should already be set for life. The Yanks gave him $5 million for his three or so years in their system. He was going to get a base salaries of $2.2 million in 2004, $3.8 million in 2005 and $6 million in 2006 from the Yanks and walked away from it. It was a good deal for the Yanks to get out of the contract as well. If Henson doesn't make it they're paying a minor leaguer $12 million over the final 3 years of his deal.
He didn't walk away he was cut or was going to be shortly from the yanks farm team. big difference.

Even if he was cut, he was still guranteed the money.

He walked away from 12 million guranteed...Thats the way baseball works.

Get a clue dude, baseball contracts are guaranteed. He was going to receive $12 million over the last 3 years of the deal of guaranteed cash. A-Rod is making $25 million a year. Do you think if the Yanks didn't want to pay
A-Rod anymore all they have to do is "cut" him? Nope, he's guaranteed that cash. It's different than the NFL.

You are all missing the DANG point I don't care about the money part being guarnteed or not if most any Team in MLB offered him a contract to play in the "Bigs" he would jump all over it. He was being cut and no one else wanted him so he "fell" back into FB. The issue here is can he be our QB of the future I don't think so its my opinion. He was out of FB toooo long and I haven't seen anything close to being a "good" QB in Henson, and I assure I wanted to he was good in college but face it how many QB's coming out have been busts? So why is it so hard for some people to accept the fact Drew Henson will not be a franchise or even a bridge to a franchise QB in the NFL.... But again thats just my opinion. when he does something to prove me wrong I wil be man enough to say I was wrong but I don't think I will have to. I hope he proves me wrong but so far it isn't looking good. hes playing against scrubs for crying out loud and hes still playing crappy.... someone here said give him a full offseason and TC and see how he does didn't he have that last year? didn't help him a bit actually hurt him again IMO they tried to change his throwing motion which hasn't helped and you can see him revert back to his "natural" (Baseball) throwing motion more and more. atleast thats what I see when he throws kinda of in the middle not sidearm but not fully over hand either. OH well again just my opinions....

Nothing like throwing away a 3rd round choice and time already put into developing a player at a critical position.

We threw away the 3rd rounder when we signed him and we've done nothing but waste time with him since he's been here.

I really am not sure what the people who want Henson to fail expect...

nor am I sure what they what him to do in NFLE that he isn't doing... (I don't believe he is fast enough to throw and CATCH the ball and I don't think they will let him play defense or be on special teams)

I believe he has come a long way in a short time but there is still work to be done...now most of you all know how I feel about Bledsoe.. I really don't think Henson is that much further behind him and I don't believe that Henson can get better than him sitting on the bench...

just my $.02 or whatever it is worth

It's not a question of wanting him to fail. It's about credability. How many qb's have been successful after being away from the game for 3 or more years. Warner never volunteerily left football and he still played football while away from the NFL. He had the passion. Henson is way behind Romo, who sucks, so how can he not be far behind Bledsoe. Bledsoe at least has the passion even though he stinks. Henson stinks and doesn't have the passion. So he's only worth about $.02.

Actually he did walk away he reached a buyout agreement with the Yanks so he could go back to football. He was guaranteed the 12 million remaining on his contract he left that on the table to go to football.

You're totally clueless, I'm not going to even respond to your comments about Drew jumping at a MLB contract right now if offered or falling back on football when he signed with the Cowboys, but they're so way off. You're missing my point. My whole post was in response to a post about Drew being in it for the money and you responded to my post. And my point was if he was in it for the money, why would he walk away from all that guaranteed cash from the Yanks? Your response was that he didn't walk away, he was cut or going to be shortly. Sorry to say, but the Yanks were not going to cut him with that much money left on his contract. My response to you was that he was going to get paid anyhow, even if he got cut. He did walk away from the $12 million dollars remaining on his contract. It was a mutual decision by both Henson and the Yanks to opt out of the deal. The Yanks allowed him out of the contract and didn't have to pay Henson another dime and Henson could go try his hand in the NFL, which would not have been allowed according to his Yankee contract.
