This team is super low on 2027 draft capital as it is and the class is supposed to be much deeper than this year's.

The team would inherit the guaranteed portions of the contract for the remaining years other than bonuses. So if the next year's base salary is guaranteed, the team trading for him would inherit that. If there are roster bonuses, the team trading for him would inherit that. Those things are included in the dead money for the current team if it cuts him, but not if it trades him.

Miami's dead cap if it cut him today would be $34 million. If the Dolphins traded him, Miami would be on the hook for his signing and restructure bonus money (already paid to the player), which adds up to around $15 million. They may also have to pay his $50,000 workout bonus because I believe that is based on offseason workouts.

A 2nd would get it done. A couple of years of Brooks would be worth it.

That is not dead money. Dead money is money that has already been paid and is still against the cap when the player is gone.

According to salary sites, it would be dead money for Miami, but that accounts for cutting him. If they trade him, it changes things. Then, whatever guarantees there are go to the team that gets him other than bonuses that have already been paid.

Miami would absorb a $34 million cap hit to cut him and a $15 million cap hit to trade him. That is their dead money in either of those scenarios because he would be gone and they would still have to pay it.

A team that got him would be required to pay the guarantees left in his deal. Now, because that team did not give him a signing bonus, if it turned around and traded him, there would be no dead money. But if it cut him, it would assume responsibility for the guaranteed money in his deal, which then becomes its dead money.

Think back to how many times the Cowboys D got gashed up the middle. They have not has a great, run stopping MDL who could call the plays in years. Brooks is most definitely worth a 2nd.

A second I could deal for Brooks, but a first…..only for an end. If we picked Bain or traded for Maxx, I would have just preferred sticking with 4 down lineman…..Bain/crosby, Clark, Q, and Gary….i would have been quite happy with that as our starting dline! Good against the run with that squad.
I hope the guys we got prove me wrong. We got a lot riding on a bunch of question marks at the whole LB core, inside and out.

3 years is not a long-term deal. They're in rebuilding mode so in his last year of his deal would be the earliest that miami would be ready to compete and then you would have to sign him again to a much bigger contract. If he was a building block, you sign him to atvleast a 4-yr- preferably 5-yr deal.

It's an extension, meaning he is signed with them through 2029. Guess how long that is? 4 years. He will be 34 when it's up.

Not saying he won't get traded at some point, but no, sign and trades in the NFL don't happen, this isn't the NBA. Name one serious one?
