I don't see how you keep a guy that will get penalties constantly
It’s going to come down to Goodwin or Joseph for a gunner spot. Joseph plays defense so he is more valuable.

He did have 8 penalties. One was bogus so 7 is a lot. Most were stupid penalties as well.

But they won’t cut him on his rookie deal. He also has value because he plays special teams, outside corner and slot.

He grabs and holds on just about every play. He is a penalty waiting to happen. They might cut him.
Joseph had a good game Saturday. Can we wait until he has a bad one to rip him?

I just rewatched the first half. And he was one of the players I focused on on defense. (The other was Mazi.) They attempted three passes on him and did not complete any. He broke up one and the other two were bad throws on third down (one may have been on fourth), but he was in position to make the tackle short of the sticks on the bad throws, which would be his job on those plays.

He hasn't been a penalty magnet so far. He also hasn't been great but depth at CB is always needed and he gives them that atleast.

You're a smart football guy. Your eyes actually work
You are becoming toward Joseph like CowboyRoy is toward Elliott. I don't know how Joseph will turn out. It may end badly for him, but anyone's eyes who actually worked Saturday would have seen that he played well when he was out there.

I’m not sure where this is coming from?

Joseph actually had a very good preseason game last week.

Why isn’t anyone talking about that?
I'm trying, but it seems there are more who want to hold his past against him than acknowledge the present.

Last week, I wrote that I didn't think he was having a good camp because I saw quite a bit of footage of him getting beat. And that may bear out in the preseason games, but it did not Saturday. Of course, there were only a few passes thrown his way in the game.

I do think it is important to note that in the game he was playing the slot. In the 1-on-1 matchups, etc., in camp, you are not always getting the benefit of team defense. He may be better in the slot, where you face a lot of underneath stuff, than he is on the outside, where he has trouble handling double moves and go routes.

I don’t see them cutting him being a 2nd round pick.

You let him play this year then attempt to trade him / play out his contract
they cut plenty of second round picks, heck they only cut Jalen Smith but they paid the dude too much then turn around and cut him mid-season and owe him money... how about hill if eric's got and some of these other young guys are playing well enough this could be it for Kelvin Joseph I mean he may get one more season because of the way he plays on special teams but I think his days are numbered....

Joseph got called for a few penalties on special teams last year and a couple of them were pretty bad calls. But there is no doubt in my mind his anchor is his brain. If he was smarter he would be starting somewhere at CB. I don't know for sure, but I get the feeling he is not a guy who studies film, pays attention in meetings, or does extra work to prepare himself. he seems like a guy who tries to get by on his athletic ability alone. That's the way he looks on the field. That might work on special teams but not at CB.
