Or maybe he's doing what he's supposed to be doing. He hasn't screwed up, so they won't report on that.
Also may mean has hasn't lit the practices on fire either. And maybe he's not supposed to yet.
I'll wait until TC and see.
Way too many want to say bust before a guy even gets a chance.
I would love to see people when you first start a job, need to learn, but yet people watch you for 1 day, or even after your first year, and say you should be fired, as you just don't get it, and you are over paid.

Truth. Im always gonna hope a young player succeeds, esp with Dallas, because i dont see the point of wishing failure on anyone. I was wondering because nothing stood out about his game and Dallas has definitely opened the door for competiton for the 2nd/3rd RB spot. Cant wait to see this battle in TC.

I don't know how anybody saw enough of him last season to have an opinion either way.

I don't know why but I think we will see a lot of Dunbar this year. He seems to have that burst. I would like to see them set some screens up for him but we never run them..

Well, if reports about Linehan are true, we should be expecting a fairly heavy dose of Dunbar. We're also apparently lining RBs up in passing patterns and throwing to them in OTAs, too. I'm not a Randle fan, either, but they guy does have nice soft hands, so that's something that might work in his favor in camp if it continues.

Of course he does.

Up until last year..

so did Murray.

Took 3 years for him to do something.

Murray? As in, DeMarco Murray? The guy that rushed for 250 yards in his 6th game as a pro?

Randle didn't show anything to get excited about last year, and you have to keep it moving with RB's. There's no reason to have a "project running back" (if there is such a thing) at all, not on this roster. I won't be upset or surprised of they keep Randle around, but Dunbar showed more. If Randle loses the #2 battle to Dunbar, and isn't a special teams standout, I see no reason to keep him around really.

Understand.

I just see his glass as half-full unlike yourself.

And I really don't see him as being flushed off the team so fast.

But certainly agree we hope he seizes his opportunity and continues to earn his roster spot like the rest.

I'm willing to see him play in preseason before I'm going to be concerned.

We have so many other concerns than 3rd string RBs.

Right.?

It seems we've had backs similar to him before. You know the ones that run into the back of the blockers and trip themselves at the line of scrimmage.

Don't you guys think its a little early in the process to decide Randle's a bust?

I mean I can only think of about 6 RBs in the history of the Franchise who started as rookies and had an impact.

Don Perkins

Dan Reeves

Calvin Hill

Dwayne Thomas

Tony Dorsett

Emmitt Smith

There is lesser list of

Ron Springs

Hershel Walker

Preston Pearson

MBIII

and I'm sure several others I've left off that came by trade or FA but they were not rookies.

So I think Randle needs another TC to even evaluate him.

No love for Julius Jones?

Don Perkins was a fullback, and Dwayne Thomas didn't start until after Calvin Hill got injured. Preston Pearson was not a rookie, he came from the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Ron Springs had had an impact, they would not have drafted Tony Dorsett. And all that really means is that your list is too large. VERY few running backs make a difference as rookies. It is a hard position to learn in the NFL and college success means nothing. Like others, I have not seen anything of Randle to think he will be on the roster this year, but at the same time, I have seen nothing of Williams or Malena either. I will wait and see.

I really have no positive or negative opinion on Randle currently....if he is non-existent in TC, and the other guys continue to do well, then he will be hard-pressed to gain a roster spot...I love the competition at most positions...

...I am not giving up on Randle just yet, but it wouldn't take much for me to start liking the dunbar's and others more...

He may not make it, because he didn't look too good last year. But he isn't an "OTA star" kind of back anyway because he's a tough, all-around, non-spectacular kind of player. The guys who stand out in these kinds of practices are the Dunbars of the world who have a lot of speed and quickness but might lack something else when real football games are being played.

Great observation, CL.

His problem is he was drafted. If he was a walk on the thread would be completely different.

I think if Randle was a walk on, he may not have made it thru TC last year. The fact that he was drafted is probably the only reason he gets the opportunities. 3.6 ypc is not awe-inspiring, not even confidence-inspiring. I'll still reserve judgment and wait to see what he looks like in his 2nd year tho.

Its never too early to label busts for some in this forum.

This. I actually like the player. He needs to pick up his blitz pickup and get some more opportunity. He looked decent in the Detroit game. The kid has a k back for making himself small st POC and through the line. A little too much upright tunnning though. Give him a chance, I bet he is #2 on the depth chart.
