The Cowboys are screaming that they don’t want to take a guard with a premium pick.
BWAAAAA!!!! Is that what you really got out of that news?

To me it screams that Ball sucks so bad that we already know he cant play tackle and is simply too slow. So let the guy try a hand a guard before we have to cut him.

Also tells me that they have all the tackles they currently need on the roster and are probably thinking of Steele as the swing tackle just like Jerry said. Only position on the line where they need someone is guard.

I believe he got injured fairly early in camp his rookie year (high-ankle sprain) and they stashed him on IR for the year because they didn't need him. So last year was his first full preseason, and he had some very bad outings early on that had fans ignoring the fact that he improved some as the preseason wore on. Of course, he didn't look real good when he got some playing time during the season. Maybe he can get it turned around and at least turn into a serviceable backup. Some players need time to adjust to the speed of the game, reshape their bodies, etc. Of course, he may just turn out to be a waste of roster space, but we'll see if he's able to progress or not.
While agree with you for the most part of this the issue I have is that he lacks functional strength for the edge so I just don't see him anchoring inside.

Knocking what out of the park? There haven't been any team activities
Nothing but rainbows and unicorns from Coach Mike

I hope Waletzko steps up and becomes a player,. At this point I'm not sure any of the backups from last year are even quality backups. Hope they prove to be
They have an offseason whiffle ball league.

Ball may be more suited and probably should be fitted for the Rowdy suit instead. Or if G is his position, then guard the Gatorade on the sideline. Some college players just aren't destined to be NFL players. As for Waletzko, hope he becomes at least a good backup. Lord knows they need OL.

It really depends on how much he's willing to work at it. He's a naturally big man. If he works hard to improve his strength, he might can handle it. It's tough for someone his height, though, to play low enough to win leverage on the inside. I'd probably keep him at RT and let him just focus on that since he needed a lot of improvement, but we like our backups to have position flex.

I just mainly have a problem with this mind-set we seem to have adopted as fans of giving up on a player quickly. Some just aren't ready to step up immediately. They have to adjust their play, their prep, etc. Ball might not be able to do it; Chaz Green never did (although he actually started out OK and then got worse), but it can take a little time for some. What we need to see from him is some good progress that shows he's worth keeping around for another year. If we draft another linemen, it may be tough to get a spot because we'll have Tyler, Edoga, Biadasz, Martin, Tyron, Steele, Waletzko, Farniok and the rookie. That's nine OL, including four tackles. If we keep one more, we might want it to be another interior player, like Alec Lindstrom or Brock Hoffman. Luckily, though, he doesn't have to worry about future Hall of Famer Isaac Alarcon since we've moved him to DT.

Waletzko played well in his snaps last preseason he looked like a real guy.

I will not be surprised one bit if he’s a reliable swing this season with the chance to develop into a starter down the line. Keep an eye on him in preseason he looks like he belongs.

You could tell something was off with Ball immediately.

He was so bad at tackle that is was clear he doesn't belong in the NFL and would struggle to hold down a job in the CFL. BUT since we drafted him, lets try him at another position so we can pretend like we have the depth chart covered .

When someone has never looked like he belongs, and gets injured as well, it is rather natural to give up on him.

He certainly would not be the first who looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane.

Just cut this idiot and move on.
How about seeing what he can do at the position change first before doing that.
Keep him until a better option comes along. Maybe during OTA's if a better option is there.

Right now, unfortunately he is probably the 9th best OL out of the 11 on the roster.

Between the draft and UDFA's, he will be further down and a likely TC release.
