I venture to say it would have been much easier to get him last year than the coming year. As a RFA with a 7th round tender we could have "poison pilled" the contract by making a large contract guaranteed if he played more than 7 games in a year in the state of Washington. As a UFA he's more than likely franchised and we won't have a shot.

I've been on this bandwagon for awhile now. His age and ability to kick off made him a much better option than Vandy IMO. Seattle was locked in a contract fight with Minnesota over Hutchinson. I think we could have snuck in and made off with him. An offer anywhere near what Vandy got would have done it. Major mistake by BP/JJ.

Once they lost Hutch, they had all the money in the world to match any offer to Brown.
