The one I'm hearing is the Wizards send Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to the Mavs for Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, Quinton Ross and James Singleton... Tim Thomas may be included instead of Singleton, and there is some talk that the Wiz will be sending along Javaris Crittenton...
The final package details are still being hammered out, but multiple media sources are reporting that a trade of Butler for Howard is all but done... the deal above is notable mostly for the fact that all of the players the Mavs are reportedly considering packaging have contracts that expire after this season...
In related Wizards news, it appears that Antawn Jamison may soon be on his way out of town too... one rumor has him going to the Cavs for Zydrunas Ilgauskas (another expiring contract), another has him going to the Celtics, I haven't heard what compensation would be involved... before the Butler to Dallas rumor heated up, there was a rumor that the Celts were going to trade for Butler and Jamison, sending the Wiz Ray Allen and a package of scrubs... but reportedly, even though Butler is a dead issue, they'd still like to acquire Jamison...
If these two trades come to fruition, the Wizards will have exactly five contracts on the books at the end of this season-- Javale McGee, Andray Blatche, Dominic McGuire, Nick Young and Randy Foye... this assumes that they terminate Gilbert Arenas' contract, which I figure is all but certain... obviously, they'll be sitting with a ton of cap room, and can be expected to eye the likes of Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh or Amar'e Stoudemire closely... they'll also have a lottery pick, maybe they can finally get lucky in the draft, and pick up John Wall or Evan Turner...
It's pretty clear that the Wizards are in blow it up and start over mode... it could be an entertaining offseason for us fans of the Wiz...
Edit-- if the Wizards acquire Ross, Singleton or Thomas, I look for them to turn around and waive them quickly (they'd have 14 players on their roster)... I figure they'd hold on to Gooden and Howard for at least the rest of the season...
