Dolphins QB Josh McCown's index finger was needed six stitches recently when his brother Luke accidentally cut Josh's finger instead of firewood.

Luke's accuracy issues hit home. Josh, who is competing for a starting gig with John Beck, wound up requiring six stitches. He was holding up firewood to cut and Luke missed. It's unclear if the injury will affect his readiness for training camp.

:lmao2: Dam, hate to make fun of somebody getting hurt but I guess there was a reason why Luke never made it in the NFL. Get well Josh!

Maybe Luke thought he would get a call from the Tuna for a new QB. :D

Sounds like he's lucky he is not missing a digit or two.

Parcells must be amused - LOL

Parcells is going to be pissed. He has told his players before to stay out of the strip clubs and the woods, very dangerous. LOL!

I kinda like Josh McCown.

He's a poor man's, poor man's Tony Romo.

I can't believe he would actually hold a log while his brother is swinging an axe at it.:lmao2: Wasn't it Del Rio who had some kind of log and axe in the lockeroom and the kicker or somebody got injured in the leg or something?

I think there is something that actually holds the wood, so I am not sure why he was holding it.

It happens. I have a picture of my father holding a piece of wood while my seven year old son swung an ax at it. Good times and no injuries, but as soon as I snapped the photo I suggested another activity.

Punter out this week, maybe season

October 9, 2003

When rookie coach Jack Del Rio placed a stump of oak and an ax in the Jacksonville Jaguars locker room a few weeks ago as a motivational technique, symbolic of his theme to "keep choppin' wood," it was viewed as a sophomoric technique by some veterans.

Now the move is likely to be regarded as a huge mistake.

The Jaguars on Thursday lost Pro Bowl punter Chris Hanson for an undetermined amount of time -- ESPN.com has learned that he will be sidelined 4-6 weeks and could well miss the balance of the season -- when the fourth-year veteran was accidentally gashed on his right (non-kicking foot) while wielding the ax.

Hanson, 26, was taken to a local hospital for what Del Rio before practice termed "a gash of some sort." As it turned out, the injury was severe enough to require surgery. It is not known how long the surgery lasted or what steps were taken to close the gash.

The wound, agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN.com, was self-inflicted.

"Chris said that everyone else had been taking a swing with the ax, chopping the wood, and he finally decided to do it, too," Rosenhaus said. "Unfortunately, the ax either went through the wood, or bounced off it, and went into Chris' foot. Chris told me it is a pretty significant injury."

While it is likely that the injury will be fully healed before the end of the season, the Jaguars might be reluctant to carry two punters, using Royals but keeping Hanson on the roster as well. Team officials hinted Wednesday evening to Rosenhaus that they might place Hansen on injured reserve. That would end his season.

"They basically said," acknowledged Rosenhaus, "that there is a chance Chris might not punt again this year."

Jacksonville quickly signed veteran punter Mark Royals, released by the Miami Dolphins two weeks ago. Royals will punt on Sunday against his former teammates.

The accident apparently occurred during a team meeting that the kickers were not mandated to attend. Hanson departed the team's training complex on crutches.

Not surprisingly, the ax was removed from the locker room Thursday afternoon, and the tree stump will soon be gone as well.

It is somewhat surprising that franchise officials, and the league, would permit the tree stump and the ax, given the potential for the kind of incident that transpired Thursday. The stump had garnered plenty of media attention.

Said Del Rio: "I'll find another slogan. The message was understood. The thing was on its way out soon, but not soon enough. It was symbolic more than anything else."

I am an avid chainsaw user and fell tree's annually. I DESPISE MORE THAN ANYTHING having to split wood and that is a real dangerous act if you don't know what you are doing. I actually season it 2-3 years unsplit and load it into fires already going and it rocks.

I would NEVER hold a log for an axe wielder - thats crazy as its very common that the axe will glance and bounce around.

I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't hold anything for any type of axe.

One of the things I love about forums is, if you hang around in them long enough, you gradually collect data that gives you a better and better picture of your fellow posters. 'Nors' and 'avid chainsaw user' is a pairing that had never occurred to me. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

He using the chainsaw to make ice sculptures of all his favorite Patriot players. You can't even tell the difference between ice hoodie and real hoodie.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Maybe Bill will add this to his QB list that he gave Romo.

Quarterback commandments:
1. Ignore other opinions – Press or TV, agents or advisors, family or wives, friends or relatives, fans or hangers on - ignore them on matters of football, they don’t know what’s happening here.
2. Clowns can’t run a huddle – don’t forget to have fun but don’t be the class clown. Clowns and leaders don’t mix. Clowns can’t run a huddle.
3. Fat QBs can’t avoid the rush – A quarterback throws with his legs more than his arm. Squat and run.
4. Know your job cold – this is not a game without errors. Keep yours to a minimum. Study.
5. Know your own players – Who’s fast? Who can catch? Who needs encouragement? Be precise. Know your opponent.
6. Be the same guy every day – in condition. Preparing to lead. Studying your plan. A coach can’t prepare you for every eventuality. Prepare yourself and remember, impulse decisions usually equal mistakes.
7. Throwing the ball away is a good play – sacks, interceptions and fumbles are bad plays. Protect against those.
7a: Splitting wood is good exercise - holding wood for your brother to split is a bad play

8. Learn to manage the game – personnel, play call, motions, ball handling, proper reads, accurate throws, play fakes. Clock. Clock. Clock. Don’t you ever lose track of the clock.
9. Get your team in the end zone – passing stats and TD passes are not how you’re going to be judged. Your job is to get your team in the end zone and that is how you will be judged.
10. Don’t panic – when all around you is in chaos, you must be the hand that steers the ship. If you have a panic button so will everyone else. Our ship can’t have a panic button.
11. Don’t be a celebrity QB – we don’t need any of those. We need battlefield commanders that are willing to fight it out, every day, every week and every season and lead their team to win after win after win.
