Insurance luxury in case of injury.

Same way Bland became a great insurance when Lewis got hurt, - Lewis now becomes a great insurance in case Bland gets hurt.
Question is, can they afford that luxury? We saw them decide against keeping L. Collins around as insurance as a backup Guard/Tackle.

You can’t do that without an injury settlement I thought?
If they like Lewis, if they have plans for Lewis' role and return, if they think he should be physically prepared and ready to play in scheduled time.
they won't be thinking about injury settlement.

it would likely be injury settlement related if he is not physically responding to treatment, and if it's a settlement, the club still is obliged to
pay a certain dollar price.

They would have already cut Lewis Post June, if they did not think they could not afford him, or no longer interested in him.

Did they decide against Lael Collins because they could not afford him, ..or because he was a declining player with a medical risk and they really felt they
had a more descending, promising consistent player in Terrence Steele ?

Good point. Think they released Collins more due to his lack of work ethic and commitment.

Would be ideal to keep Lewis on ice (PUP/IR) until an injury occurs. I'm not on the side of cutting good players. Cowboys could trade a few players on cut down day like Joseph, Lewis or Wright.

Really rooting for him. Not a front line player but knows his craft.

When I read his injury was the worst anyone had every seen I figured his career was over.
Lewis is among the best in the NFL in his fundamentals, and his instincts. His one drawback is lack of speed, which is why he cannot play on the outside. He can play well against 3rd receivers who may be quick, but slow. And he can cover RB’s out of the backfield.

It’s too bad he doesn’t have more speed, because if he did, he has the talent to be a great CB. But physical limitations matter, which is why I was never an NBA player, despite leading my high school team to a state title in basketball as a point guard.

Jourdan Lewis extreme talent is the only thing that has allowed him to overcome his lack of speed, and have a productive NFL career.

I don’t know who’d want Joseph or Wright lol
But Lewis, if healthy can start on most teams in the nfl. Not sure he’d bring a whole lot coming off and injury and last year of contract but if I wasn’t gonna keep him I’d be exploring those options. A team loses a starter and his value goes up quickly
