I don't know why this comp has been glossed over when this player is right under our nose. I also don't understand why there is this emphasis on speed rushers when one of the only few ppl to give the best LT in the game any problems is JPP. Tyron has had no issues with pure speed rushers i.e. Robert Quinn.

Taco like JPP, although explosive, don't need to have the explosiveness of 240 lb guys as they'll win with length, power and being nimble.

Combine numbers for comparison:

JPP

Height: 6046 (arm length 34 3/4)
Weight: 270
40 Yrd Dash: 4.78
20 Yrd Dash: 2.76
10 Yrd Dash: 1.68
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 19
Vertical Jump: 30 1/2
Broad Jump: 09'07"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.67
3-Cone Drill: 7.18

Taco (arm length 34 1/4)

Height: 6055
Weight: 277
40 Yrd Dash: 4.92 (4.83 from pro day)
20 Yrd Dash:
10 Yrd Dash:
1.63 (pro day)
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 25
Vertical Jump: 33
Broad Jump: 09'07"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.39
3-Cone Drill: 7.17

Plus only one of them can comfortably eat a taco with just his right hand.

This is a good one.

As has been stated in numerous threads, you don't need to be 6-3 250 with a 4.6 40 to be a good RE. There is more than one way to win on the edge, Taco is in the mold of the bigger 43 Ends who deploy and length/power/quickness game over pure speed... and to be honest, I've always favored that type of play.

When you're undersized most guys are done if they can't capture the edge with that initial surge of the snap. The big guys can still do that with a good jump, especially since taco timed well in his 10 yard split, but it's their ability to deploy counter moves with their length and power that make them tough matchups for LTs.

He's got a great chance to reach his ceiling based on his situation. He's got the best DL coach in the league and will be getting countless reps against the best LT in the league.

Kind of sick of this "Taco compares to player X" talk. No offense to the OP, BTW. I understand it because the draft just ended and there's nothing of actual substance to speak of this time of year but I think it sets a standard and a threshold around which people convince themselves that it's safe to start complaining about the kid when/if he isn't Joey Bosa, JPP, Justin Tuck, or Reggie White by week three of the season.

Taco is the perfect comp for Taco and none of us knows what that is yet.

What do you want us to talk about???
The month before the draft was bloody boring.
Besides we need some assurances that the pick will work out.

Well when I hear all the talk of a speed rusher on the outside, and the guys of Taco's dimensions can't make it out there.....I actually think of Ed "Too Tall" Jones.

Or I guess Reggie White was too long to be out there. Every player is different, we got to give Taco a chance to be Taco, and hope its a Taco Supreme.

BTW, I like the bigger guys also. Can't teach speed, but you also can't teach length with quickness, and brute strength.

And none of those guys were themselves by week 3 of their rookie seasons. Like you said it's just fodder in the downtime. Foolish ppl are going to be reckless with their opinions whether I made this post or not.

Obviously not a fan favorite but Greg Hardy also ran a 4.8 and I believe he would be the best 4-3 defensive end in the league right now if he had his head on straight.

Just another example of a guy with a crappy 40 time that has had success. He's a guy most of this board was gushing about having on this team two years ago...I guarantee some of the same people complaining about Taco's 40 time.

Lets go back to dreaming about having drafted the next JPP, Byron Maxwell, Adam Jones and Julian Edelman.

Hmmmm. I did not know that JPP only had 6.5 sacks in his final year at USF.

Taco definitely has the physical tools to be a good one, now lets just hope he puts it together and delivers.

Actually, you can teach quickness and you can improve strength. But I get your point.

Does Taco have the same fondness for fireworks? If so, Taco will soon be a tostada......:omg:

I know, really wanted to be the first with a joke but I can't live on this site!

I think JPP is more explosive off the snap while Taco can stink up a drive late in the game.
