Let's say he has the type of year this year he had last year.

Hell, let's even give him a bit of an improvement.

Say he gets 1200 yards and 8 TD's.

What would it take (contract wise) to resign him?

I don't think Dallas will. If the Cleveland pick is say a top 3 I think we take McFadden in the draft.

Humor me.

(I think Jones is gone after this year if Cleveland's pick is high enough too). I just want to see what kind of deal JJ would be expected to get.

I'd start with Ladell Betts Contract... or franchise him. See him do it again..

Running back Ladell Betts signed a five-year, $11 million contract extension with the Washington Commanders on Friday,

and maybe go to Ahman Green's contract

The veteran tailback will sign a four-year, $23 million contract that includes between $6 million-$7 million in guarantees.

yep, we need an impact player on offense, got to remember to is 33, glenn is 33 both have been hurt last 2 years, so to me, you need a impact running back to take pressure off of romo, someone that they have to put 8 men in the box to stop run, that then will make your wr positon and te that much better,

so i agree if clevelands pick is a top 3 pick, dallas will try to get mcfadden

with their other # 1 pick, they can get a impact wr or nt or cb

I'd really hate for people to get their hopes too high about McFadden. I see another 2004 trade happening all over again.

Peanuts compared to what it'd take to sign McFadden as a #1 overall.

If CLEVELAND wins 10 or more games......it helps JJ's chances to resign with the Cowboys termendously.

Well, naturally.

I just wanted to see a ball park figure of what Jones might demand given the aforementioned scenario.

Either way, whomever we take with Cleveland's pick, be it McFadden or someone else, its going to cost a lot (if Cleveland's pick is high). I just wanted to know about how much Jones would be valued at.

That wouldn't surprise me either. I think that philosophically Jerry has realized that a steady infusion of talent is more desirable than having a few megastars. I won't be disappointed either way.

I just think if Dallas has a chance to get a premier RB they will take him. I think Jones knows the difference between an avg back and a star RB after all he has had both. Same with Phillips I think he fully understand what a back like an LT brings to a team. They may talk about the 2 back systems and the upside to it but I think it is talked up because that is what we have but I don't think it will remain that way if the opportunity arises and we have a chance at a top RB

It would require McFadden already being drafted when the Cowboys' first round pick rolls around... :D

Green's contract seems more likely -- I think folks shouldn't automatically assume that JJ is out of here. Even if we target McFadden, we still need a 2nd good RB. Folks will immediately say "but we've got Barber!" -- he'll be a UFA in 2009 and an RFA in 2008.

Personally, I think that Julius would make a great compliment back -- he'd be a great 3rd down guy as well.

I don't believe that he will feel the need to go somewhere that he can be THE guy -- Parcells noted a few times in discussing sharing carries that Julius really benefits from having his brother to talk to - if you look at Thomas' career, he's been effective when he's been part of a rotation. I don't think it is a stretch to think Julius would be happy in a role like that.

Ultimately, this year probably comes down to a decision on Jones vs. Barber -- one of them gets locked up and the other leaves either as FA or via trade. If both of them have outstanding years, there is a small chance that we just lock them both up and don't draft an RB at all -- that's unlikely though.

Seriously -- those Bledsoe-led comebacks almost killed me.

I agree.

Despite that some like to "add" up our Jones/Barber stats to prove our backs equal in production to elite backs....

What they forget is that with a dual back system, each runner stays more fresh, thus, they should perform higher than if they were the workhorse. Secondly, even if the stats are similar, who would you trust down the stretch more? 2 mediocre RBs or an elite RB?

Defenses plan differently for you when you have an elite talent at RB than they do if you merely have a "good RB" tandem.

I for one, hope they pass on Mcfadden and resign Jones. I don't think RB is a need position. Could Mcfadden be an upgrade, maybe, could also be a bust! I think with Romo, Newman and Ware coming up shortly, I don't know if we should pay the type of money it would take, for a position that is not a NEED!

I would be ok, with trading down, picking up a few more picks, and going after a WR and CB in the 1st round.

Even if we want a "star" RB, the question is could one be acquired later on.

Who knows, this whole discussion is moot if JJ has a monster year.

If you can upgrade a position like RB that touches the ball 25 to 30 times a game I think you increase the ability of the offense as well as creating bigger problems for defenses. Other than QB the RB is going to handle the ball more than any other player out there. Fortunately this franchise has seen some of the best RB to play in this league and it has been a big part of the success of this franchise.

If a super blue chip CB or WR is there for the taking and we trade down......
