Julius Jones is the real deal...

Limiting his carries to 20 a game isn't so bad. Right now he's averaging 18.5 carries a game. At this pace, he's on pace for 296 carries for 1,332 yards and 8 TD's.

If he did get his carries to 20 per game, he'd be on pace for 320 carries and 1,440 yards.

True, but you being a numbers guy should know that there are no guarantees that he will keep that avg of 4.5ypc as the real ypc avg don't start coming out till much later in the year. The odds based on prior years says that he won't last the season without injury and at that, he won't keep up the 4.5ypc pace.

I'm by no means hoping for failure, but am expecting it. I beleive Jones has the talent to be in this league. I'm just not so sure he can do it. Parcells knows he can't be an every down back and that is why he is limiting him to 20 carries. Otherwise he would never finish a season.

It's still way early and we have been waiting over 2 years to see a consistent, quality RB emerge. I personally believe he has the physical talent, but that sometimes his vision and instincts aren't the best and a lot of times his O-line doesn't help much.

Parcells knows he can't be an every down back and that is why he is limiting him to 20 carries. Otherwise he would never finish a season.

There are pretty much no running backs who go for much mroe than 20 a game. LT averaged about 21 last year. Same with guys like Rudi Johnson, McGahee, T. Jones. Portis and Edge averaged about 22.

I think Parcells making Marion more responsible as a blocking back is really a smart thing, and helpful to Julius. I don't think # of carries is a huge thing, because even at 20 a game, he's not that far behind the top backs in the league.

For me in the end I'm more concerned about the Cowboys overall running attack than just Jones. If the team is consistently able to run ball with the 3 backs we have (Jones, Barber and Thompson) then it benefits the team. None of these guys are Emmitt Smith who is going to get 25 to 30 carries a game but as a unit if they can make the Cowboy running game go it make little difference to me about each mans individual stats. Move the chains and be effective in the redzone and help take pressure off the QB
