Out of curiosity, how many carries did he have in the pre-season?
I agree, he's okay. I'd love to have a gamebreaker like DMac back there.
But I don't like the, "well Julius spoke out and did nothing, so he sucks even more now" faction. He was mediocre in the past, he was mediocre last night. It's like if you hold his robotic statements against him, he really only was setting himself up for failure last night, as nothing less than 120 yards on 16 carries would have satisfied us to say he's no longer a robot. That's unfair IMO.
If that makes any sense??
He talked the talk during the offseason. Worked out on his own, said that Parcells stripped him of his instincts - then comes out and looks exactly the same, only now he's making terrible decisions and going out of bounds with a 3 point lead.
He, Spears and James brought any of this upon themselves. they expressed their disdain for the previous regime, and their delight with the new. And many people decided that was all the asurance they needed that these three players were finally going to perform, and said as much. Out of the outdated scheme with the outdated coach, they were supposed to shine, and they did anything but last night.
So I certainly understand the criticism.
OTOH, guys like Tony Romo kept their mouths shut and just focused on improving THEIR game instead of blaming their ineptitude on cozy little comfort blankets of "scheme" and "robots". I think the difference in performance from these two approaches is clear already.
It's possible Julius is still being de-robotiscized, and that Spears still has lingering scheme-itis - but what you saw last night was just the same old Julius Jones and Marcus Spears. And for all the talking they did in the offseason, IMO - it should have been a noticable difference.
