lol, you guys think we can Afford Ware and Peppers? Peppers has already said he doesn't like playing end in the 3-4, so he would want to play OLB. He'd have to lose about 20 lbs to even be able to do that.

If he breaks free, I don't think there's much chance he lands here. There are probably 30 other teams with the exact same thread right now.

that consistancy could come with better players around you: Peppers - ? - Ratliff with ? and Ware on the outside...

I admit I don't watch much Carolina football, but I'd be willing to bet he plays "up" in nickle situations... still at DE. How often and with how much success does he fall back into coverage. My bet is, not too much.

And, even if we can afford him and he can play OLB in a 3-4 (provided we keep a 3-4), then what do we do with spencer and ellis?

This guy may be more athletic than Ware. I don't think he's as quick and may be a tad less fast than Ware. He drops into coverage more than not much and less than a lot.

He rushes the passer and is more than athletic enoug to play up. I have zero concern for him being able to play a 3-4 OLB for Wade. He could have been a forward in the NBA. That's how talented he is.

and what position would he play here? This isn't Madden, you can't just plug and play.

Would you stand him up at OLB and try another Ellis experiment

Or leave him at DE, until you realize 3-4 DEs aren't there to go all out at the QB, and 4 weeks into the season everyone moans about our huge bust FA signing...
Julius Peppers is twenty times the athlete that Ellis is. He would be a sick 3-4 OLB IMO.

Peppers is overrated. The guys vanishes in to many big games. We don't have the cap space to sign him anyway. We need a dominating NT and a playmaking safety and more help on the O-line.

Peppers has been a Cowboy fan for a long time per reports. He'll come here if we can afford him and Carolina doesn't franchise him.

He may be too expensive for them to keep. I don't know their cap status and need to keep other players.

But he would be deadly here in Dallas.

The Panthers have about 10 mil cap space from reports around here.

On a side note, a Panther fan called into a local radio station the other day and actually was saying that he was the biggest fan of Carolina and this was his list to fix the Panthers:
Sign Asomugha, Haynesworth, and then do a sign and trade with Peppers for Ware!! Talk about delusional!!

Stand him up at OLB. The Ellis experiment worked just fine until the achilles injury and his age caught up with him.

OK now I'm confused.

I don't know why Peppers would want to come here in the first place, other than the money. I can't think of why any big named guys looking for a chance to finish their careers successfully would come here. We scared off Zach Thomas of all people.

As highly as we think of our team, I don't think the same holds true for most people outside the bubble anymore.

As I said, I doubt he comes here. But not because he wouldn't want to or he's not good enough to play DE/OLB in a 3-4. It would be money.

And I do agree we have other concerns that are a much higher priority than stacking the deck at OLB. We do need a big 2 tech NT, a safety, ILB who can cover and run stop, and as always depth at corner. Offensively we need OL depth and I mean true depth as well as a backup QB.

I think it would be a misallocation of resources to bring Peppers here. If the cap goes away next year then we can do pretty much what we want.

Oh sweet mother. Can you imagine Ware and Peppers opposite each other? Talk about some sleepless nights for teams coming in to play us.

Peppers ready to part with Panthers

Any hope that Carolina had of signing Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers to a long-term contract extension is being sacked.
Peppers’ agent, Carl Carey, said this weekend that his client will not sign a long-term deal with the Panthers this offseason — or ever — and that his client prefers to move on to a team for which he can make the leap from great player to elite one. The Panthers are aware of Peppers’ demands, and they want him to remain in Carolina for the remainder of his career.
Peppers’ contract expired after the 2008 season, and he is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the signing period opens Feb. 27.
“He feels strongly that he needs to make a change to make that leap,” Carey said of Peppers, who turns 29 on Sunday.
Peppers prefers to play with a new team, in a new city, perhaps one that uses a 3-4 scheme that would better serve his skills.
Now, part of the mystery surrounding Peppers’ future in Carolina has been solved: There does not seem to be much of one.
This leaves Carolina in a dilemma. It still can slap its franchise tag on Peppers, but there is a risk the defensive end will not sign it, and the Panthers will have $16.7 million counting against their salary cap. Plus, Panthers offensive tackle Jordan Gross also is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, and Carolina cannot slap a franchise tag on both players.
It’s one or the other, and Peppers does not want to stay.

Well, my post is kind of useless now....
Anyway, it'd be tight if we could sign Peppers and Ware, but cap is an issue.
