And still shaking his buns on TV!
so true! instead of being in a wheelchair or walking with a limp after all those hits, he has a GREAT shot at winning a dancing contest! who woulda thunk it? he's a champ though.. once he is determined on doing something, he is gonna work and work until he is the best at it..

I disagree completely - Emmitt did slow D-linemen enough to buy the QB some real time.

Obviously Emmitt couldn't stand those guys up and stop them, but you seem to think Emmitt blocking an oncoming D-limeman was akin to a moped trying to slow down an oncoming train.

If you truly watched Emmitt block and have watched Julius Block you would see there is a dramatic difference.

Making defenders slow a little and then accelerate again makes a big difference - even quick 280 pound guys take a second to reach full accelerate after being slowed even a little.

And often just making enough contact to throw the defender off a direct line to the QB is enough to buy some significant time.

I agree completely that we are letting too many defenders get through the line of scrimmage untouched, but to say a good blocking RB doesn't make a difference is plain false.

There is a difference in blocking between Emmitt and Julius. It is clear that Emmitt was better, but he did not take on d-lineman that often. Few back do unless they are chipping on an end.. Most d-lineman would take out a running back, Emmitt included. I wouldn't like any scheme counting on block a d-lineman with a back. Just would not be effective.

Now blitzing linebackers, that is a different story. Emmitt could take out linebackers. He would take their legs out sometimes and others he would hit square in the chest. I remember him destroying Cornelius Bennett in SB27. Troy Hambrick was also good at picking up the blitz.
