Word is guy was super lazy. Private donors were supplementing his 2.5 million salary, and he wasn't recruiting personally, he was having morning practices so he could golf in the afternoons, in the off season he was in Hawaii instead of with staff and courting players.
I think he self destructed on purpose, and it is very unbecoming and unethical, he basically stole money and dumped on the student athletes in the program.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him crawl back to Hawaii where a desperate program rehires him after they fire Norm Chow.
Welp....... Time to dust off Jerrry Glanville.
I am thinking about starting a rumor that SMU might hire Sumlin or Briles just to get the baylor and aggie fans all riled up.
Nah...don't need the drama but the evil side of me still likes the idea.

In the old days that rumor might have credibility, but these days not a chance. In the old days, you would have posted this after you had already started the rumor. Have to admit, I sometimes miss the old BP.
LOL.....

I don't know about Sumlin, but Briles several years ago confided there were but two jobs he'd leave Baylor for, the Dallas Cowboys or the Longhorns.
I think he changed his mind about the Longhorns after Baylor built him a stadium, and he listened but didn't pitch himself to UT in January.

SMU may very well target Ags and Bears coaches.
Both have OC that could appeal.
Chad Morris would be a short list dream candidate if they can get him.
But I'd be looking at guys with extreme recruiting advantages like Deion Sanders or the Cedar Hill head football coach.
Imagine stealing DeMarkus Lodge?
Deion isn't a coach. Any recruiting advantage would soon disappear when it becomes evident he doesn't know what he is doing.
Plenty desperate, the university made this lone individual publicly retract his doubts about the future of athletics. How desperate is Hawaii?

There are more than a few coaches who really do not run the offense or defense.
Deion could coach Special Teams, recruit and he could make the program money and draw it attention.
If they brought in the right coordinators it could work very well.
He has a lot of ex-NFL buddies around him.
Deion had parents sending 5 star recruits from other states to play for him in HIGH school.
It is an outside the box option but SMU needs to do something very drastic if they want to ascend from the ashes.
Hiring Sanders would be a gimmick. It might get a few recruits his first year or two, but long term it would do nothing to build a program. I doubt Deion would want to do the work required of a head coach of a program.
Deion has it made now. There is no way he would want that job.I doubt Deion would want to do the work required of a head coach of a program.
