I believe Staubach played on some kind of football team in the military, probably flag stuff or something like that.

Squadron against squadron maybe.

I have seen several people on this board when comparing Aikmen, Romo, White and Staubach say that Romo was the best pure athlete. I just bit my tongue and moved on. I am not a Romo hater, in fact, quite the opposite, but Staubach was by far the superior athlete. Landry always held him back with his conservative style but Roger would always bail us out in the end. The true definition of a professional football player in every sense of the word..

Staubach missed four years because of his commitment to the navy (1965-68), then led the league in passer rating his first two qualifying seasons. The team's (and the league's) history would probably have been different if not for those four missed years.

But then, that wouldn't have been Staubach.

After he was drafted by the Cowboys, they knew he had a commitment to the Navy for 4 years.
Supposedly he took a playbook with him to study while on his tour of duty.
