Just a Thought On Romo

I have my fingers crossed Romo shakes off some of the rust he had in the opener. I also hope he shakes off a lot of the rust he had at the game speed and decision making, along with viewing all of the field.

I still have high hopes for Romo.

But....consider this.

Laughenberg suggested four months ago on the radio we may be seeing the erosion of Romo due to back surgeries counting two.

Aikman was positive about Romo's return to the glory days, but also tossed in a caveat that there is a possibility the back is the problem and he knows first hand how that goes. The implication was bleak.

I prefer an aggressive and sharp Romo with velocity and accuracy, along with a field general acumen that is equally as sharp.

But what if this is the beginning of the end? With his cap hit, can you fathom just how screwed this franchise would be if he did a slow descent into retirement at the end of this season?

That idea scares the Hell out of me. Because that scenario puts Dallas behind the eightball for the next five years to the point without a bit of fortune in replacing Boy Wonder, this franchise is a bottom feeder.

We can only hope he returns to form. Even then, I doubt Dallas wins anything. I never was a fan of that extension.

A more frightening thought is if they are bottom feeders WITH Tony.

He said he's good to go for several more years. That we will see his best in the future.

I sure hope that is true. I just don't know what to think anymore. Whether to believe all the spin or to believe last week was just a fluke.

As much as some think I don't like Romo, this notion of him not being under center, and the resultant cap hit scares the drizzling pequot out of me.

I don't mix the back problems with the mental mistakes that Tony exhibited this past game. The mental will return to normal. We'll see how the deep ball goes.

But you have to admit CC, that Troy could still mentally see the field, make the decisions and out think defenses when his back failed him.

So the field generalship, which is all so important, is also tied to the ability to make the throws. Both are necessary. But physical attributes could be more important, to the most slightest of degrees.

No argument with function, TwoDeep...at all.

They went through a lot of QBs before Peyton found Romo. Can't imagine how long it would take them this time.

At 34 there's some things Romo is never going to shake off. His best years have come and gone and some of the issues with his game such as poor decision making and impulse throws will never go away.

But what if this is the beginning of the end? .

Explain this to me. If this is the beginning of the end. Is there really a difference?

His beginning, "in the beginning" he did same crap.
His middle, "as he was getting better" (with experience) he did the same crap...

Now, if this is the beginning of the end, things will be..... What? Better? Better decisions?

There is faith and hope and believing... Then there is just knowing what is.... Who he is... What he will do. It's that simple.

And prior players such as Warren Moon puts some soundness to projecting beyond Tony's present age.

Thank you. We will now discuss string theory until we find the exact answer why Romo throws picks at the most inopportune times.

I expect insanity to arrive well before that theory is proven.

I think they draft the next QB next year. Romo stays through next year and loses the job at some point. Hopefully the back end of that contract is not guaranteed and they can cut him for just whatever the signing bonus is that counts against the cap.

The O-line is fairly set. Draft all defense next year after you get your QB in round 1.

Or we could bring in Sam Bradford next year when the Rams move on from him and draft their new QB.

This is exactly right. If he's done then it's going to get real interesting around here because it's very possible there could be a lot of Quincy's and Chad's under center in the next ten years.

It actually not as drastic to cut Romo after this season as it seems.

You have to consider that his large base salary would be gone which offsets a big part of the dead-money.

If he is on the team in 2015, his cap hit is 27.7M (if they don't restructure it).
If he is not on the team in 2015 and is not a June 1st cut, then his cap hit is 27.4M or 34.9M depending on how you interpret a 7.5M guarantee in his contract.

That would indicate that they either gain 0.3M of cap space or lose 7.2M of cap space when comparing having him on the roster in 2015 to not having him on the roster in 2015. They could gain significant cap space in 2015 if he was a designated June 1st cut.

Not in the least.

There is no way you can assess what Romo will do because of a player who played the same position. Supposition, yes. Projecting...I project I will rise tomorrow and have another day of life. That projection is accurate until...you do that math, CC.

Oh no, walker. I am not suggesting cutting him or moving him along.

My premise is what if he CAN'T play anymore because his physical aspects have taken a dip they cannot recover from.

The contract is ludicrous. I grant you that. But the idea of what this team would be with a cap hit the magnitude of Romo and him being on the gold course as we hunt thr9ough every dumpster Jerry can find to come up with another Romo is like watching end of times videos on YouTube.

I have to turn it off because it scares me. So does the idea of Jones performing his Quest for Quarterback.
