I'm another devoted draftnik, in fact I have already got a coupla hundred college players, complete with heights, weights and 40 times (for most of them), on an Excel spreadsheet...

It adds spice to the college season, I can now watch games that don't involve my 3 favorite teams (Texas, Virginia and Tennessee), and have some interest in the proceedings...

Among the Horns this year, I like DB Michael Huff and OT Jonathan Scott, and have mixed feelings about DT Rodrique Wright... if he steps up this year, and plays like he did 2 years ago, I'll be a lot more "sold" on him...

Oh man don't get me started on the draft. We'll be up al night. I'll have a keen eye on Brooks and Parham of VA this year. Allen from TN and Lawson DE/OLB from NC ST. This kid is unreal athletically.

Well, he says he's not biased against the Horns, and I'll take his word for it... but you and I both know that assorted Horns haters have been trashing DJ's preseason play to date...

As for Merriman, perhaps if somebody trashed some Horns prospect EVERY year, then a pattern might emerge... one year, it's Quentin Jammer, the next it's Chris Simms, last year it was Derrick Johnson...

Every year, the Horns haters have a semi-organized campaign to trash UT's best draft prospects... that's a simple and indisputable fact...

Oh I agree there are a lot of Horns haters here. I just didn't think this thread was based on Horns Hate.


And IMO, Jammer is a bust so far. I'm glad we weren't even in position to draft him. I wanted Roy Williams all along, and I absolutely HATE OU.

Chris Simms, I think he's a bad fit for Gruden's dink-n-dunk offense, but He has talent. It would be nice to see him go to a team with an offense better suited for his skills. I think he can be a solid starting QB in the NFL, but at worst he'll likely be a good backup.

Brooks is a true stud, but he'll be long gone before the Cowboys get a chance to draft him... I'm a long-time UVa fan (I live about an hour and a half from Charlottesville), so I'd be thrilled to be wrong about that...

At this VERY early date, my Cowboys draft strategy would focus on FS, RT and WR in the first 3 rounds... this draft is fairly strong at the first 2 positions, less deep at WR...

My approach would have the Boys looking at either Jimmy Williams from Virginia Tech or Jason Allen from Tennessee at FS in the first round, or perhaps Michael Huff from Texas in the second...

At WR, I'd look at Todd Watkins from BYU, Martin Nance from Miami-Ohio or Travis Wilson from Oklahoma in the 2nd...

At OT, Marcus McNeill from Auburn, Erick Winston from Miami or Jonathan Scott from Texas would make nice first round picks, but I'd wait until later in the first day, 3rd round range, and cross my fingers that Andrew Whitworth from LSU, Zach Strief from Northwestern or Jeremy Trueblood from Boston College would still be on the board...

A draft like this would address some of the Cowboys' biggest needs going into this season... of course, the ratings of these players is likely to fluctuate some over the coming months, this is just intended as a basic draft philosophy for the 06 draft...
