Just CHILL: Jones not concerned about Sensabaugh

Clarence Hill

According to agent Kevin Connor, restricted free agent safety Gerald Sensabaugh has drawn interest from three or four teams, though no visits have been set up.

The news did not come as a surprise to owner Jerry Jones, who is not concerned the Cowboys might lose Sensabaugh because they gave him with a second-round restricted free agent tender of $1.8 million.

Though they want him back and are even considering a long-term contract extension, the Cowboys made a shrewd business decision. They don't believe a team will give up a second-round pick as compensation for Sensabaugh. If someone does, the Cowboys could always match the offer.

"That doesn't surprise me for any of our players to have interest," Jones told reporters said Tuesday. "I don't know that that's a concern because I've heard it. I crossed that bridge when we made the decision on what we were going to do in free agency on restricting him . . . So I thought that one through."

I fully expect Sensabaugh to be back. I don't think teams are going to be in a big rush to give up a high draft pick in what looks to be a rich draft.

Jerry Jones has repeatedly made idiotic personnel decisions, but it appears that this time he at least knows enough to know that Sensabaugh isn't the sort of player teams give up a 2nd rounder for.

Every GM makes bad decisions. Jerry makes fewer of them than most.

Dallas needs a someone who will create turnovers back there... Sensabaugh wasn't bad but he didn't produce many turnovers.

don't you know? jimmy gets credit for the 90s. jerry ruined the team after that, parcells was the savior and we are just living off of what he's built for now...

Oh, I keep forgetting that, but thank goodness for CZ, where someone is always nice enough to remind me.

It was nice for a while at the end of the season here to have the nonsense quiet down for a few weeks. I think the free-agency angst is getting to some of our softbrains, though. Things are getting chippy again.

If its a player that the Cowboys want to keep I have every confidence in Jerry and Stephen to do what it takes to keep them cause they always take care of players that are producing. If a player ends up going else where its for a reason and we as fans dont know the reasons for the inner workings to be calling moves idiotic.

Just "chill"? This implies that someone's agitated at the thought of losing Sensabaugh. Who are these people?

I would rather keep him than lose him but the other side of the coin is Dallas not over paying to keep him. Reports are Dallas would like to do a long term contract and should Sensabaugh not get the offers I think it will be much easier for Dallas to do a long term contract at a reasonable cost.

So would I, but "chill" implies that fans are worried or something. I see no evidence of that. Guys like him come and go.

Keith Davis and Pat Watkins starting will do that to a fanbase.

I agree, then again I don't know what kind of messages the star is getting from readers pertaining to Sensabaugh.

I think the guy is a good solid player who I think made our secondary much better than we had been over the last few season. Dallas gave up a total of 5plays of 40 yards or more which was an improvement.

Granted he only had 1 int but also played basically with 1 hand this past season but his play along with the others in the secondary help cause many coverage sacks and incomplete passes on the season and myself I don't judge secondary play on ints alone. As I said really would love to see him return

"Just chill" is a series of articles about Cowboys, not just Sensabaugh. However, I agree with you because no one is in panic mode on most of the other players they've covered either.

Edit: I GET it. Chill is Clarence Hill. Took awhile for that one to dawn on me.

Very true, fans do not want to take steps backwards and I think most understand your not going to have a pro bowler at every spot getting good solid play and good coverage means something

I think without the cast on his hand he would have made more int's.
