Just For Kicks...Your Worst Nightmare Mock

He's DOMINATED entire games in the SEC. You couldn't run against that D.

Several people do not get the backup comment. Let me clarify. Almost anyone we take in any round is going to be a backup for 2010 unless we simply hit an unexpected home run. That isn't what I am talking about. Taking a backup at a position of strength and ignoring needs.

For the record, every player in that Mock of mine except the Kicker is actually a very good player. I still wouldn't want them at that pick. Give me Cody in the 3rd or later, sure. 1st or 2nd? Nope, I don't want him. I want to address needs first.

Tebow in the first is rough.

Cody in the 2nd would be fine, we have no NT depth. Ratliff is shortening his career manning the nose full time.

Norwood projects to ILB as well as outside, and to get him in the 3rd would be solid value.

McCoy in the late fourth is outstanding value, although another TE is complete overkill.

And then you watch him play on the field and you realize the guy can play. If there were no conditioning concerns he would go in the top half of the first round.

And if my aunt had testicles, she'd be my uncle...

I have faith in our scouts and if they interview him and the coaches and treainers think they can work with him then we would be foolish not to take him in the late 50s. Hes not going to be there anyway.

I have a hunch that our coaches and trainers will have the same reaction I did to that picture of him shirtless-- if he can't even be bothered to get into semi-decent shape for the most important job interviews of his life, how can you expect him to get, and stay, in shape once he gets paid...

I've seen too many talented fat boys waste their abilities over the years to ever want to waste a good draft pick on one more... Cody has showed zero desire and zero discipine this offseason, I want no part of him...

Ask yourselve's this. Would you take Albert Haynesworth at a fraction of the cost?

If your answer is yes, then you say yes to drafting Terrence Cody.

Sorry, Bob, that's an asinine comparison... Fat Albert on his worst day has never been as grossly sloppy fat as Cody is...

Haynesworth is 350 lbs.

He's also 6-6... meanwhile, Cody is two inches shorter, and listed at 370 (generously, I think)...

In addition, when he came into the league, Fat Albert was about 30 pounds lighter, which means 50 pounds lighter than Cody is coming into the league...

But both Mt. Cody and Fat Albert have great quickness that belies their girth.

Haynesworth is considerably quicker than Cody is... don't be surprised when Terrence runs a 5.6-5.7 second 40, with 10 and 20 yard splits similarly subpar...

Again, my point is if Cody is tippin' the scales at 370 coming into the league, at a time when he should be working hard to be in the best shape of his life, how can you count on him not to go Aaron Gibson on you once he gets paid, and wind up on the wrong side of 400 pounds?? I mean, did you SEE that pic of him shirtless??

There were more reasons for that than just him, you know...

But again, my extreme reservations are not about his talent, I acknowledge that... his talents alone ought to make him a high first round pick...

But I am as close to dead morally certain as I can be that he's gonna eat himself out of the league in short order... I simply don't believe he has the discipline needed to play well at the NFL level...

IOW, I think he's a fat slob, lazy and unmotivated... excuse me if I don't care to spend a second round pick on a lazy fat slob, or even a third round pick...

Especially not when we already have arguably the best nose tackle in the game today...

You can still address all your needs even with Cody in the 2nd.

You could trade down or just stay pat and pick up a "need" in the 1st

Say we traded down and picked up a 3rd and 5th.

Pouncey
Cody
Gilyard
Veldheer.

Would you not take that? It clearly satisfys our needs even with Cody in the 2nd.

Yeah, I was... and I seem to be wrong about him...

Or maybe the Panthers were just happy with the play of Keydrick Vincent, who started all 16 games at right guard for them...

And of course, you haven't been wrong about any player you liked, ever... :D

Sorry. Just because you hate him, doesn't make it a bad pick.

And surely you know that Wade is against starting rookies. So, all the draft picks are going to be backups their rookie year.

Maybe, you and your all-knowing crystal ball know that Cody is a career backup.

As badly as the 'realists' crapped the bed this season, do they have the right to refer to themselves sensible? They do, if they've given up on pretending to be realistic, and if they don't mind crapping the bed some more.

Those of us who were paying attention are going to recognize the smell of those opinions, though.

Okay wait. What does Duke Robinson have to do with Terrence Cody?

Prior to Cody removing his shirt most Draft publications had him as a 1st round pick. Now he is listed as either 1-2 tweener, or even a couple have him as a 2-3 tweener.

If he drops to the 4th or 5th round will that mean the same thing as some message about Duke Robinson?

There is no correlation between the two other than someone on this forum liked one of them and someone else likes the other. Everyone on here falls in love with guys who fail. Even the stupid morons who don't have the sack to admit it.

I wouldn't take Cody in the 2nd round. No way, no shape, no how. You have to weigh risks vs rewards. I do not think his potential rewards outweigh the potential risks. If he was 40 pounds lighter, I might feel differently. Right now he looks like an unmotivated tub of goo well on his way to eating himself out of football. I do not spend a 2nd round pick on that.

O'Brien Scoffield The poor guy tore an ACL during Senior Bowl practices. He probably won't get drafted and will have to rehab on his own dime without access to all the perks pros get.
I bet he does get drafted, just not as soon as he was projected.

He is good enough that I would certainly spend a late round choice to redshirt him.

Cody showed up nauseatingly fat, but there are several reasons why I give him a bit of a pass.

Andre Smith was virtually the same way, but I think they are cut from different cloth. Cody is far more passionate and seems to be less lazy. Both were in the same program with Saban, so there is also a pretty good chance neither were monitored or prodded to watch the jelly rolls so long as they produced, and he certainly did that.

Being a disgusting fatbody is one thing. Being lazy and feeling entitled along with it is another. Everything I have read about Cody suggests he is more emotional, less slovenly and more likely to pay the price.

I know it's just splittin' hairs when someone weighs that much, but I suspect Cody will be more like 350 instead of the 370.

The kid loves the game, so I'm not so sure the picutre you are painting is accurate.

I would not risk a 1st rounder on him, but I would at least consider it late in Rd2.

Fair post Alexander, but let me ask you this. Once the kid has money in his pockets to where he can really eat whatever he pleases, what stops him? A passion for the game?

I think that's a hold your breath scenario much moreso than a written guarantee. I agree that the guy can flat out play his fat *** off. I just don't think we need a NT in the 2nd round and I really don't think we need one who is 40 to 50 pounds overweight. What prevents him from having a heart condition in 2 years?

I just don't like the odds. If he is there 3rd round or later and we roll the dice, I think the potential rewards then outweigh the potential risks. Prior to round 3, let him be someone else's concern.

A weight clause. A staff that is on him constantly. But again, I also think that while he was productive, nobody at Alabama took it terribly serious because he played well. I have read some things that say they looked at it, but even Saban was joking with him about it after the weigh-ins. Everyone knows he's going to be a big boy. The thing here is whether he realizes it. I have not read anything that suggests he does not care.

You don't get written guarantees on any draft choice. All I am saying is that the warning signs are not there with him yet. If he shows up for the Combine in worse shape than the Senior Bowl, then there are some red flags that pop up and rightfully so.

I just don't like the odds. If he is there 3rd round or later and we roll the dice, I think the potential rewards then outweigh the potential risks. Prior to round 3, let him be someone else's concern.

I have more of a concern taking a backup nose tackle in the first round than his weight. This Ratliff to DE rubbish is pure nonsense and our first round choice needs to be more than a high-priced reserve for the next three years. That is the main reason I would not be excited if he was chosen in the first. The weight concern would just be a sidenote.
